Holga in Texas

After two failed rolls and some minor cursing, I finally have a successful roll from my new Holga.  I decided to bring the camera to Texas because I am NOT a quitter (except for when it comes to Monopoly because that game is simply way too long).  I think B and my sweet nephew Xavier make the perfect models :)

Plan B - Preyin'

Earlier this year, my girl Suez and i dropped a Dj set at Good Vibrations Festival. We were lucky enough to spin at the artist afterparty as well and one of the faces we stumbled across was Plan B. I'd been spinning the A-track remix of "More is Enough" for ages......was nice to see B genuinely surprised anyone in Australia actually knew who he was. All my knowledge of him was rap based so when he told me he had a vocal track coming out i laughed and asked if he could actually sing..........apparently i need to eat my words.....move over Daniel Merriweather

Pendants & Charms Coming Together

One of the new designs that I did this year is with many different kinds of pendants and charming. The charming technique takes quite some time to create, but the affect is most appealing. Using different pendants gave each one a unique look while using accents in stones, swarovski crystals, dichroic glass, freshwater cultured pearls, and some of my free form spiral or double coiled wire work.  The neat idea behind this is that each design is stationary on the silk cord, so the designs will not be lost and each comes with a matching pair of earrings!

In this design I used a puffy heart pendant in lapis lazuli and the charms include freshwater cultured pearls, swarovski crystals and black agate. Wire work is done in non-tarnish silver wire.

Turquoise is one of my favorite stones of nature to work with; here I’ve paired the blue teardrop pendant with a fold-over wavy bail and charms of swarovski crystals, white magnesite and black agate. Wire work is done in non-tarnish peacock blue and black wire.

Fossils are fast becoming one of my more favorites to work with in wire as they are so individually unique; here I’ve used an orthoceras fossil pendant with charms of swarovski crystals, freshwater cultured pearls and two cloisonné beads. All wire work is done in silver non-tarnish wire.

Balance to Mind, Body, & Soul

http://www.bodytalkspace.com BodyTalk is a healthcare system that works with to harmonize the body on all levels. The premise is that the body is designed to heal itself, which is does through communication. BodyTalk works to improve the communication systems within the body so that it can be more efficient and heal itself more effectively. Balancing the cortices is one of the most important techniques in BodyTalk. It works to balance the brain, which is involved in everything we do! Everything in the body is reflected in the brain, therefor by balancing the cortices we are bringing attention to brain, and helping to improve it's function and subsequently the health of the entire body. One of the other very important things about balancing the cortices is that it helps to shift the body and mind out of 'fight or flight' (sympathetic) and into 'growth and healing' (parasympathetic). We often get stuck in flight or flight which causes great stress to the body, and breaks sown those communication pathways in the body. It's like too many plugs are plugged in and our circuits 'blow'. This causes us to get stuck in a stressful state, and from this place, everything is more difficult- including healing. Balancing the cortices also balanced the right/left brain which is fundamental for a healthy body and mind. The right brain is the more intuitive side, imagination and it can work holistically- looking at the big picture. It is responsible for our creativity and and artistic abilities. The left brain is responsible for our reasoning, logic and thought. It looks at the details and works in a linear way therefor it is slower. It is our knowledge and our learned behaviors. Most people spend most of their time in their left brain, with periods in the right brain. Usually it is inconsistent and we will flip flop between the two or spend most time in just the left brian. What we would like is to have both sides of the brain working together to provide us with the ability to connect to the big pictures whilst knowing the details, have logic AND intuition, be able to be aware of where we're going at the same time as knowing the steps to take.... Balancing the cortices daily starts to bring the body and brain back to a state of health where we can naturally move between different events without getting stuck in fight or flight and start to live using our whole brain. I highly recommend balancing your cortices in the morning when you wake up, before you go to sleep, and if you have any kind of shock or trauma. If you have an accident, a headache, cut yourself, are stressed out, receive some bad news... tap out your cortices and watch how you relax and return to a place where the body can start healing. Golf fashion trend in Spring/Summer 2009

The game of golf has come a long way. Now golf is more appealing to the younger generation. The new fashion trends have helped to make golfing cool and trendy. What other sport can you make a fashion statement with all of your accessories like a golf clubs, golf shoes, golf bags, golf gloves, golf balls, sunglasses, umbrellas, and also a fashion statement with your apparel.
So, ... take a blend of many decades of style, add a dash of old Hollywood glamour, and you have the magic of the trends for spring 2009. This season the designers added modern twists to our favorite classic and timeless pieces. Fashion icons like Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy, and Princess Diana wore many of these sophisticated and classic trends: romantic, flirty, and colorful in design and mood.



Inspiration & Philosophy
Relaxed etiquettes as well as the endorsement of golf-playing actors, sports personalities, and models generated a lot of popularity for the green sport and turned it into a generation-overlapping leisure activity. Nevertheless, or because of this, a new seriousness has come into play when it comes to golf fashions. It is defined by a distinct demand for performance with technical materials and even more function. The attitude emphasizes that golf is a performance sport, and not just a fun game of skills.
Another tendency observed is the return to tradition, reflected in the use of retro and emphasized luxury aspects. Golf is defined as an antidote to daily stress and deserves celebration. Influences from the 1930s, the birth era of leisure fashions, play a particular role.
Intentional neglect of etiquette and the insignia of the more boisterous golfer, such as military styles and conspicuous prints are a thing of the past.

Cuts/Shapes/Materials
Ultra-thin and –light blousons with high cuffs, e.g. made of acrylic-reinforced nylonpolyester mix, dominate the jacket segment. New are so-called paper touch weaves made of silicon-infused cotton, which catch the eye due to their matte shine. In comparison to last season, shapes are becoming more body-hugging, yet continue to provide the required freedom of motion. Flat-front trousers and chinos are refreshed with the help of compact, yet lightweight weaves.
Classic shapes and materials are used to create 1920 and 1930 era-style silhouettes, finding their way from the catwalk to the world’s golf courses. Cotton pleat-front trousers, cable-knit sweaters and vests, combined with golf cap and gaiters, and fine wool qualities reflect a casual chic creating a traditional, yet modern look.

Colors/Patterns
“Colorful, yet not multi-colored” is the motto for the upcoming golf summer. Bright colors such as signal red, apple green, or sulfur yellow over large areas are even more dominant in ladies’ golf fashions. Men’s apparel sports refracted, elegant hues and pastels such as rust, light green, or dolphin grey. The prevailing patterns include muted Glenchecks, Vichys, or diamond checks.

Chocolate & Cherries – New Design

This brand new design created this week, is a little classy and a little sassy. Made from a combination of natural gemstones in Chocolate Jasper and Cherry Quartz; each Jasper stone has been accented with pewter filigree end-caps and I’ve captured the Cherry Quartz in silver toned wire cages. Between each section are triangle shaped seed beads in a pink lined color. This fun classic is 23” (58cm) long with matching earrings dangling at 1” (2.5cm). Natural Stone Pendants Wired

I’ve spent time wiring some natural stone pendants and included earrings with some of them; something new I’m trying this fall with the pendant line. With these, I’ve wire wrapped them using non-tarnish silver, bronze, brass or copper wire. I just received more exotic and unusual stones, so keep checking back as I get them done, either posted here or on our website.

Tucson 2010 Countdown

The big event is almost here; time to get ready for Tucson 2010!! If you haven’t already made your reservations (plane, hotel, car, etc.), now is the time to do so before you miss out on the biggest event for all gem, mineral, and rock enthusiasts.

Every year, Tucson is host to the United States largest Gem and Mineral show; starting late January and running thru the middle of February. Dealers, wholesalers, and buyers all converge on the small southern Arizona town to discuss, barter, sale, buy, meet & great, and see what is new (and old) in the industry. There are hundreds of shows with thousands of vendors from all over the globe and across the United States, with one thing in common; show what they have and entice us with the newest, latest and greatest.

Some of the following shows are ones that I recommend and do attend. You’ll find a wide selection of finished jewelry, tools, findings, displays, beads, gems, lapidary, and much much more. These shows as most in the Tucson area require wholesale and business industry credentials to get into them. Check with each show’s site to pre-register for many of them, see details and check for dates; as this year, several of the shows do not overlap as in past years.

Street Vendors: This is my favorite place to shop; I’ve gotten some of the most unique and unusual items here. Miles and miles of vendors take over the hotels, parking lots, and anything in-between. Across the street from the freeway, starting at Congress and running all the way down past Freeway Aveune, you can find any type of vendor; beads, findings, silver, raw materials, lapidary, finished products, gemstones, clothes, bags; just to name a few. And best of all, most are open to the public, however check with vendors before purchase to make sure they don’t require a wholesale license.

JOGS: If you’re looking for Amber or Southwest jewelry, this is the place to be. Dealers from around the globe bring the best and finest in Amber and southwest products. The show also hosts many vendors of finished products, collectables, and raw materials. This is a wholesale only show and requires a Tax ID to register and attend.

G&LW (Gem Mall, Holidome, Grants Inn): At many of these shows you can find international dealers and wholesalers; pearls, turquoise, silver/copper, finished products, beads galore, beading findings/products, displays, and much more. This show is a wholesale only and requires Tax ID to register and attend.

China Mountain: If Turquoise is what you are after, then you’ll need to visit the buildings located between Gem Mall and Holidome, where you’ll find the well known vendor China Mountain. Plenty of Turquoise and Coral in all different cuts and styles to chose from. Also a wholesale vendor, but you’ll need to check with them at the site to see if they will sell retail.

Electric Park RV: Though I’ve only attended this one once, I understand it is a great place to get lapidary, rocks, minerals, or slabs; so I’ve added it back onto my list for this year’s trip. Most sell either wholesale or retail so check with each vendor before purchase.

While this is just a hint of what’s at Tucson, there are also many other shows like the AGTA GemFair Tucson, GJX Gem & Jewelry Show, Tucson Gem & Mineral Show, Madagascar Minerals Gem Show, Rio Grande Catalog In Motion and Swarovski Elements-Create Your Style 2010 shows. Several are also offering many of the national instructors for classes and seminars, so check with your favorite instructor or show for schedules and details.

Mark your calendar, make your reservations and start the count-down! Tucson 2010 is just around the corner.
