Interiors: Cozy Country Chic Bedrooms

por | | 0 comments

Country chic, shabby chic, cottage chic - what have you - this soft style is exceptionally soothing in the bedroom.  Layers of texture, distressed wood, and pale colors create a warm, cozy environment.  If I could choose a different genre of design for every room in a house (which I wouldn't, but let's just pretend) it would definitely be country chic in the bedroom.  So soft yet still sophisticated, these bedrooms make me want to curl up with a good book and stay in bed all day long.  Tempting, isn't it?

Plan B - Preyin'

por | | 0 comments
Earlier this year, my girl Suez and i dropped a Dj set at Good Vibrations Festival. We were lucky enough to spin at the artist afterparty as well and one of the faces we stumbled across was Plan B. I'd been spinning the A-track remix of "More is Enough" for ages......was nice to see B genuinely surprised anyone in Australia actually knew who he was. All my knowledge of him was rap based so when he told me he had a vocal track coming out i laughed and asked if he could actually sing..........apparently i need to eat my words.....move over Daniel Merriweather

Every fall, the Hunter wellies go back on my wish list and every year, I end up not getting them, much to my regret.  I'm bound and determined not to allow that to happen this year.  I'm not sure if I want the original tall ($125) or the or the sleekly designed Regent ($150), but if you run across a sale let me know because I cannot go another year with a dependable rain boot.  If you have some Hunter wellies, I'd love to know your thoughts.  Are they comfy?  Have you had any problems with them? Which design do you like?

LINGERIE FOR SPRING/SUMMER 2010

por | | 0 comments

Spring and summer naturally evoke feelings of calm ocean waters and tranquil beach vacations in cool, vibrant, tropical Turquoise. This soothing hue from the blue-green family conjures feelings of escape, especially when paired with Amparo Blue. With more warmth than the typical springnavy, this particular shade of blue is extremely appealing because of its brighter, more energeticattitude. Like the scent of a blossoming flower, Violet lends a romantic air to the warm-weather palette. This intriguing purplish hue is a distinctive addition to any wardrobe.

Spring Summer also influence how people select the color and type of lingerie. This Spring and Summer 2010 people tend to select the clear and fresh colour.

Hot Jewelry Trends Fall/Winter 2009

por | | 0 comments
Hot Jewelry Trends Fall/Winter 2009
It’s that time to take a breath after the hot long summer and look toward the nice cooler fall and winter seasons. Depending on where you are, the forecast for hot jewelry trends this Fall/Winter are all about natural stones, natures finest is being put out on display and she is giving us some really unique and interesting materials to work with as jewelry artists. So after endless browsing the net, here’s what I’ve seen…again, depending on where you live and what your style is, these may or may not be your ‘cup of tea’.

Natural Stones and lots of them are the hottest trend this coming Hot Jewelry Trends Fall/Winter 2009season. Look for natural gemstones such as jade and turquoise to be the biggest hits along with wood, bone, and freshwater pearls to accent or mix and match. Any of these stones are perfect for incorporating into dramatic statement necklaces to wear this fall.Hot Jewelry Trends Fall/Winter 2009

Bracelets are again mentioned as the big thing this year. Bracelets are more of an accessory to the whole outfit look, especially in bold cuffs or stretch multi-layer strands. Cuffs will be adorned with jewels and stones alike, bring that bit of ‘bling’ on a budget to the jewelry world.
Hot Jewelry Trends Fall/Winter 2009Pendants are still in, so dig them out if you got’em. From bold to dramatic, many with multi-strand necklaces, layered with singled chains or worn with omegas, collars, or ribbon cords (all the rage again this year too); chose from designs in Swarovski crystals, natural stones, raw clusters of natural stones, or mounted in different metals from Sterling Silver to Copper.
Hot Jewelry Trends Fall/Winter 2009
Necklaces as always ‘make or brake’ the whole outfit and this year they are not exception to that finished look. Chose from bold, exotic trendy chunky or give a little attitude with multi-strand or layers of several different styles together. Make sure to top if off with either long single earrings or multi-layer chandeliers.

As a recap, jewelry will remain an important accent to the wardrobe this year for woman. The accent though will be less ‘bling’ and more of an edge, trendy self designing style. From bold cuffs to large pendants, big hoops, and any style of necklaces; it’s a woman’s game out there. Almost anything goes this Fall/Winter as women try to define their own style rather than copy someone else’s of the mass production lines of the past. This will make fashion fun again and women will embrace the opportunity to establish themselves in the forefront.

Happy Holidays + a break

por | | 0 comments

I can't believe it's already time to sign off for the holidays, but alas, the time is here.  I'm working up until Christmas Eve but I still have lots to prepare for including more wrapping!   B and I will be spending the holidays with our family in Atlanta and then we're spending New Years with my brother in Dallas, Texas.  I can't wait!

I'm sure I'll popping in with a few quick posts before the New Year (you know I could never stay away for too long) but I'm looking to take a substantial break from the blog until January 3rd.  Thank you for all the love and kindness you've shown me this past year.  It's been a good ride.  I wish you and your families a safe, happy holiday season and I hope all of your holiday dreams come true. xoxo

Winter/Spring Bead Shows in Review

por | | 0 comments
As the summer season is just about here, I usually take a few moments to look back and review the various bead shows that I’ve attended. I have not been paid or compensated in anyway by vendors or show promoters. The review is based solely on my opinion and experiences of the shows that I’ve attended. Without further ado, here’s my review!

Tucson (February) Winter/Spring Bead Shows in Review
The ‘Big Daddy’ of them all and if you get the opportunity to attend just one or two shows, you’ve probably become addicted and overwhelmed!
Pros: The freeway construction had been completed way in advance of the big event. This made for getting around quickly and easily. Most shows were full of vendors, large selection of beads, pendants, findings, finished goods, etc. Prices from what I purchased and saw at several shows about the same or slightly higher than last year.
Cons: The free shuttle service that was previously funded by the state was no longer available. A few shows had shuttle services between their shows (GL&W, JOGS, AGTA); however to get to the majority of the shows one had to rent a car and park. I missed the unique cuts, styles, and stones that Tucson is particularly known for and many of the vendors carried the same items from booth to booth.
Overall: You be the judge, like I said, if you get the opportunity to attend the shows then do so, it’s well worth the trip!

San Antonio Bead Market (February); Rings & Things Traveling Show (March)
Because of my Tucson trip, I skipped both of these shows early in the year here in San Antonio.

Southwest Gem & Mineral Society Show (March)
This is a mixture of lapidary, beads, teaching/instructional, and demo/displays.
Pros: I really like this show, to experience a mixture of lapidary, instructional/teaching, and displays makes it worth attending. There is a good selection of slabs, raw materials, fossils, minerals, and a lot of displays.
Cons: The show had more finished jewelry than usual and I would like to have seen more vendors in the area of tools and machinery, more slabs and raw materials and a lot less jewelry
Overall: Not a bad show in my opinion, but could use more in the way of teaching and classes from the area universities.

Parker Trade Show (March & May)
This is a quarterly wholesale only show held in San Antonio. The venue has changed for this show starting this year. It is now held across town from me at the San Antonio Convention Center.
Cons: Smaller venue, crowded smaller isles, less parking and most of the big vendors were noticeable absent from this show. I experienced less bead/finding vendors than normal and more in the finished jewelry and household goods; this is becoming a disappointing show in my opinion, one that I’m not sure I will keep on my list to continue driving across town to attend.
Overall: Unless this show changes venues, less finished product and return of the high-end quality vendors back, this is one I’m not sure I’ll keep on my list for the future.

San Antonio Bead & Ornament Society (May)
This is the SABO annual show for beads and some finished product.
Cons: What used to be a very good show is now about half of is previous year shows. It lacked quality and high-end vendors, too many vendors repeat at every single show with the same product. It also lacked a selection of finding vendors.
Overall: This show is not up to my expectations from previous years. It lacks the quality, selection and elite it was once known.

Overall assessment of the Winter/Spring bead show season:
These are just a few of the shows I attended, but there were at least 8 more shows that I did not attend also held here in the San Antonio area from February to May. Usually San Antonio only sees about 4-6 shows in this same time period; with this large influx of shows and the same vendors, same inventory at every show it is spreading both sellers and buyers quite thin. What I did see is that many are choosing to come to the bigger shows rather than opting for the smaller multi-single shows.

Many vendors that I talked to at several shows stated the same thing; little buying and what buying going on was in small quantities, gone are the large multi-purchases. Many indicated that sells are way down and getting less with each passing show; several stated they didn’t know if they would be re-turning to the San Antonio area for any shows. At this point, only time will tell what is in the future for bead shows.

Ulta, MAC, Sephora!

por | | 0 comments

Hi y'all! I am finally done with all my college applications minus FAFSA and all that financial aid stuff. I am so happy about that, because those apps have been stressing me out like crazy. I'm getting minor breakouts from it. That makes me rather sad because I didn't break out at all during winter break. It makes me really wonder how much my stress affects my break outs.

Anyhow, I went out with my BFF today. We went to Ulta, MAC, and Sephora! I wanted to get the NYX Jumbo Pencils and their lip gloss in Pink Frost at Ulta, but I decided to get those the next time I go. I wanted to save up money for the MAC Fafi collection, which comes out in a week or so. I am super excited about that.

After Ulta, we drove to MAC. I finally got Fix+ after watching so many recommendations on Youtube for it. I'll review the product after a week's usage. When I was paying for my Fix+ the MUA told me about the Fafi event that was coming up, which was the whole make-over thing. I was planning to come on the Friday of the Fafi release with my BFF, so we both signed up for a slot right away! We're both really excited about it! Oh, and the MUA gave me this really cool printed Fafi event invitation, which I am going to probably stick on my wall or something. I can't wait to get my hands on the new collection.

There was a Sephora near MAC, so my BFF and I decided to drop by because she wanted to have a look. We both bought a tin of Rosebud Strawberry Lip Balm. I was using after I got it and so far I am so addicted to putting it on. It makes my lips feel so smooth and moisturized! I think I am going to get the Mint flavored one next time I go. Oh gosh! I just love how my lips feel.

Ulta, MAC, Sephora! My Fix+, Fafi event invite, and Rosebud Strawberry Lip Balm

We spent quite some time in all 3 stores, and it was really fun day. I'm really looking forward to going back to MAC in two weeks. Must save up until then! Well, that's all for now! Byee!

Seeking inspiration: Reasons To Be Missed...

Seeking inspiration: Reasons To Be Missed...

Photo from: We heart it

Dearest Devotees,

Last night, as I was reading Twelfth Night in the second floor lounge of the Law Building, one of my favorite songs ever Leave Out All The Rest by Linkin Park, came on and all thoughts of what would become of Olivia and Orsino instantly abandoned my mind. You see, a couple of days ago, a fellow sophomore died and although I didn't know him I was deeply saddened because I know what it feels like to lose someone, especially someone that was close to you in age, because it just reminds of our mortality. I've been thinking a lot about goals lately and this sad event combined with the song made me think about goals in a whole new way. This song's lyrics are so full of meaning I just have to write it all, because I could never put it better:

"Leave Out All The Rest"

I dreamed I was missing

You were so scared

But no one would listen

Cause no one else cared

After my dreaming

I woke with this fear

What am I leaving

When I'm done here.

So if you're asking me I want you to know

[Chorus]

When my time comes

Forget the wrong that I've done

Help me leave behind some

Reasons to be missed

And don't resent me

And when you're feeling empty

Keep me in your memory

Leave out all the rest

Leave out all the rest

[End Chorus]

Don't be afraid

I've taken my beating

I've shed but I'm me

I'm strong on the surface

Not all the way through

I've never been perfect

But neither have you

And if you're asking me I want you to know

[Chorus]

Forgetting

All the hurt inside

You've learned to hide so well

Pretending

Someone else can come and save me from myself

I can't be who you are

[Chorus]

Forgetting

All the hurt inside

You've learned to hide so well

Pretending

Someone else can come and save me from myself

I can't be who you are

I can't be who you are

- From AZ lyrics

When your time comes, what will people remember you for? What do you want to be remembered for? Because these are the major life goals that you should be working towards all the time. What are your reasons to be missed?

My Reasons to be missed

I want to be missed because...

I am a caring and loving person.

I give myself completely to the people and causes I care about.

My art work and the way I lived my life inspired and continues to inspire people.

I want to be that person. I'm not there yet but I will work on it and hopefully I will be there one day.

I feel like finding out your reasons to be missed is enough of a seeking inspiration exercise today so good luck in your search and when you're done may I suggest immortalising them by:
?writing them down on an inspiration board

?take a picture of list and put it online

?writing them somewhere you can see them regularly

?turning them into your motto

?incorporate the list in poetry

Links that inspired me this week:

I've been re-embracing my love for poetry lately and this site just works wonders for me.
