Interiors: Cozy Country Chic Bedrooms

por | | 0 comments

Country chic, shabby chic, cottage chic - what have you - this soft style is exceptionally soothing in the bedroom.  Layers of texture, distressed wood, and pale colors create a warm, cozy environment.  If I could choose a different genre of design for every room in a house (which I wouldn't, but let's just pretend) it would definitely be country chic in the bedroom.  So soft yet still sophisticated, these bedrooms make me want to curl up with a good book and stay in bed all day long.  Tempting, isn't it?

Stones Misidentified or New Name

por | | 0 comments
Nature gives us some of the most incredible stones, fossils and minerals. How they are identified, classified and names remains a mystery to some sorts. Many stones are called by several different names; is it really a new find or is it just a matter of the miner or lapidary cutting the stone on a different plane or grain that gives it a new name? Though it is rare to have new finds these days, some experts will say that many stones are ‘re-born or re-invented’ 5-10 years later with different names. And just like everything else, this gives the stone new life under a different name.

The question being asked is “Is it right or wrong in naming the stone differently?” Again, that depends on which person, expert or source you ask. From what I’ve learn, as long as you keep it within the family, such as agates to agates, jaspers to jaspers, and all the mineral make-up is the same, etc., is there really harm done to the stone to as they say ‘re-invent the stone and give it a new name’.

Here’s what I’ve found so far….. Stones Misidentified or New Name

These stones to the right I purchased from a reputable dealer that I’ve done business with for some time. When purchased, they were sold as Dragon Skin Jasper. True, they are jasper; however, they have also been sold by many other vendors as Variscite, Dragon Skin Jasper, and Sea Sediment Jasper in varying colors of red, pink, purple, green and blue.

Stones Misidentified or New NameThese stones to the left are sold quite often as Turquoise. While this is true to some extend, they are at not natural stones, but man made beads. Researching them, they are actually composites of all the tiny fragments left of Turquoise, combined together and molded into a mosaic bead. Giving this bead a very unique effect with a mosaic look, it is what I call a ‘half-n-half’ meaning, it is bits and pieces of actual stone all rolled into one by man.
Stones Misidentified or New Name
Lastly, I have yet to see these in bead form, but these pendants referred to as Turquoise Copper to the right have recently made an entry onto the scene. Inquiring about them, what I’ve found is that the jury is still out on this one. Some experts say this is a man made stone by mixing copper and turquoise together and getting this distinctive look; others say this is a true natural stone that was mined back in the 1960-70’s only to die out and then recently reappear today.

So, is it a new find, man made, or an old find getting a new name; just like everything it is re-born, re-packaged and re-marketed to the world. Just remember to ask questions, do your research and make sure to purchase from reputable dealers, vendors, miners and minerals companies.

Chic Blended Navy Crystals

por | | 0 comments
Chic Blended Navy CrystalsMore and more I’m working with crystals; either in pure crystal designs or a mixture between natural stone and crystals. Crystals are a very versatile bead and I like them because they come in an array of colors, blending easily with just about any jewelry design.

In this particular necklace I did a double strand to get more of a unique look with the pearls, but not charmed. I’ve blended together a graduated strand of metallic navy blue, almost sapphire colored faceted rondelle crystals and Chic Blended Navy Crystalsadd a few light blue crystals at the bottom of the necklace. Pewter star fancy bead caps have been added to the crystals and little clear round crystal spacers are between for a bit more ‘bling’. Between I’ve mixed again are freshwater cultured pearl irregular nuggets in colors of yellow, champagne and cream.

Pearl: Purity, faith, charity, innocence, integrity, focus, wisdom, spirituality, sincerity, fertility.

Title: Review: Bayou Chic Collection

I really love how easily these blend and how the shades are different. They are very unique, not shades I could find in everyday shopping. Matte shades are generally a little harder to blend so I don't use a paint pot, however, I used a paint pot only so they would stick and they blended so well. Title: Spore: Gameplay

pore is a multi-genre "massively single-player online game"[5][6] developed by Maxis and designed by Will Wright. It allows a player to control the evolution of a species from its beginnings as a unicellular organism, through development as an intelligent and social creature, to interstellar exploration as a spacefaring culture. It has drawn wide attention for its massive scope, and its use of open-ended gameplay and procedural generation. The full version of the game was released on September 4, 2008, in Australia and the Nordic region, but Australian stores prematurely broke the street date on September 2, 2008.[3] The game was released September 5, 2008 in Europe, Japan, South America and New Zealand[7], and was released on September 7, 2008 in North America and Asia Pacific territories.[1] Spore is also available for direct download from Electronic Arts.[8] A special edition game, Spore: Galactic Edition, includes, in addition to the game, a "Making of Spore" DVD video, "How to Build a Better Being" DVD video by National Geographic Channel, "The Art of Spore" hardback mini-book, a fold-out Spore poster and a 97-page Galactic Handbook published by Prima Games.[9]

Title: BodyTalk your Brain

http://www.bodytalkspace.com BodyTalk is a healthcare system that works with to harmonize the body on all levels. The premise is that the body is designed to heal itself, which is does through communication. BodyTalk works to improve the communication systems within the body so that it can be more efficient and heal itself more effectively. Balancing the cortices is one of the most important techniques in BodyTalk. It works to balance the brain, which is involved in everything we do! Everything in the body is reflected in the brain, therefor by balancing the cortices we are bringing attention to brain, and helping to improve it's function and subsequently the health of the entire body. One of the other very important things about balancing the cortices is that it helps to shift the body and mind out of 'fight or flight' (sympathetic) and into 'growth and healing' (parasympathetic). We often get stuck in flight or flight which causes great stress to the body, and breaks sown those communication pathways in the body. It's like too many plugs are plugged in and our circuits 'blow'. This causes us to get stuck in a stressful state, and from this place, everything is more difficult- including healing. Balancing the cortices also balanced the right/left brain which is fundamental for a healthy body and mind. The right brain is the more intuitive side, imagination and it can work holistically- looking at the big picture. It is responsible for our creativity and and artistic abilities. The left brain is responsible for our reasoning, logic and thought. It looks at the details and works in a linear way therefor it is slower. It is our knowledge and our learned behaviors. Most people spend most of their time in their left brain, with periods in the right brain. Usually it is inconsistent and we will flip flop between the two or spend most time in just the left brian. What we would like is to have both sides of the brain working together to provide us with the ability to connect to the big pictures whilst knowing the details, have logic AND intuition, be able to be aware of where we're going at the same time as knowing the steps to take.... Balancing the cortices daily starts to bring the body and brain back to a state of health where we can naturally move between different events without getting stuck in fight or flight and start to live using our whole brain. I highly recommend balancing your cortices in the morning when you wake up, before you go to sleep, and if you have any kind of shock or trauma. If you have an accident, a headache, cut yourself, are stressed out, receive some bad news... tap out your cortices and watch how you relax and return to a place where the body can start healing. Get out of shock, and start healing! Try it, and let me know how you get on! Laura Hames Franklin, laurahames@me.com http://www.bodytalkspace.com "The rational mind is a faithful servant, and the intuitive mind in a sacred gift. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift." Albert Einstein.

More Mall Days

por | | 0 comments

So, in the last couple of days, I did some more shopping. I seriously should stop. My wallet should shock me every time I try to purchase something.

On Sunday, I went to the Santa Anita mall with my BFF. She is leaving for college on Sunday, and that was probably the last time I would get to spend the day with her. :( She's going to be 5 hours away from me soon, and that's pretty depressing. I need to find a new favorite shopping buddy. Anywho, we went to Forever21, and I got two new tops. Both tops are in dark colors for the Fall, although I have quite a bit of dark colored clothing already. What the heck? It doesn't hurt to have more.More Mall DaysI can't wait to wear the ruffle top with my high waisted skirt w/ a patent belt :) As for the babydoll, I can't wait to just wear it with some skinny jeans and black pumps.

Besides that, I also went to the MAC counter at Nordstrom. I finally got their lipstick in 'High Tea'. It's such a lovely nude color. Defintely perfect for everyday wear.

More Mall DaysAfter the mall, we also stopped by Melody's Makeup Outlet. I bought a refill eyeshadow pan in 'Woodwinked' and TokiDoki for Smashbox's Dolcissima lipgloss. The lipgloss is so pretty! It's a light peachy pink. When I got home, I tested it out and layered it on top of my 'High Tea' lipstick. It was like the perfect baby pink lips.

That was pretty much it for Sunday. On Monday, all I did was run a bunch of errands, so that wasn't all that exciting.

Today, I went to the mall with one of my friends to help her with dorm shopping. I, myself, got two pairs of Venice Skinny Jeans from PacSun since I needed new pairs for college.

More Mall DaysI got one pair in 'Dark Indigio' and another in 'Classic Indigo'. I pretty much have all the staple washes of jeans, so I'm all set for college...well, at least, for jeans I am. I'm glad this time I went to the mall I actually bought something I needed and nothing else!

Well, I am so tired and sleepy right now. I didn't get a good sleep last night, because their was a helicopter circling around my street 3am in the morning. It was so loud, and I couldn't sleep. Hopefully, I can have a nice sleep tonight and maybe a nice dream!

Title: DIXIE SQUARE -- The Blues Brothers: "A Mall with Everything"

Chase from "The Blues Brothers" filmed at, and inside Dixie Square Mall in Harvey, IL. In 1979, two years after Dixie Square closed, the mall would be remodeled to appear like an operational shopping center, and later trashed by the Bluesmobile and two Illinois State Police cars for the 1980 Universal Pictures' cult favorite "The Blues Brothers". You will notice a few differences in the mall's appearance between the movie and Dixie's days as an active shopping center: -Most notably, the Walgreens Drug Store was dressed as a Toys R Us toy store. Walgreens was one of many stores that refused to be seen in the movie (guess they didnt want to take the "Drive-Thru Pharmacy" to the next level). These stores would be dressed as local businesses or not seen at all. -JEWEL is seen with a mall entrance, however there was never an actual mall entrance to the grocery store. The entrance used was the former JCPenney. The fruit stands hit by the IL Trooper car are still inside Penneys against the northwest wall. -Penney's is seen with newer "JCPenney" signage. When the store was open it never used the JCPenney signage. -Woolworth was dressed-up as the Depatso Oldsmobile dealership for the movie. Not seen in the movie are: Block D Turn*Style Block A Montgomery Ward When I visited Dixie Square in January, some artifacts dating back to the mall's days as a Hollywood set were still there. Many, however, have been stolen or destroyed. -The window display frame for Frank's Drum Shop that was not hit by the BluMo is still intact. -Some of the red banners hanging from the cieling are still there, however most have been burned. -Some of the colorful wallpaper inside Toys R Us is still intact, however the painted "Toys R Us" signs featuring Geoffrey the Giraffe were either destroyed or stolen over the years. -Finally the foundations for the art tent are still there, though vandalized. After eight weeks of filming, the mall was somewhat cleaned up and later Harvey-Dixmoor school district would use the building as a temporary school in the very early 1980s while a new elementary school was under construction. This is why a basketball hoop is inside Turn*Style. The district attempted to sue director John Landis and Universal for unrepaired damages to the mall, though the suit was dismissed. This would be the last use of the building, as it was sealed once the school was complete. The mall would begin to suffer from theft and vandalism by the late 1980s and early 1990s. ----------------------- CONTENT IS OWNED BY NBC/UNIVERSAL, HOWEVER IT IS BEING POSTED FOR EDUCATIONAL AND RESEARCH PURPOSES OF DIXIE SQUARE SHOPPING CENTER UNDER FAIR USE. I WILL DISPUTE THE CLAIM IF THIS VIDEO IS BLOCKED. http://copyright.gov/fls/fl102.html "Section 107 contains a list of the various purposes for which the reproduction of a particular work may be considered fair, such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research." I will note that I am not profitting in any way, shape, or form on the use of the footage, and that the use will actually help promote the film. Dixie Square is what made me first see The Blues Brothers and I loved the movie.
