There are different wires an Artist can chose from to make links, chains, or jewelry findings. Wires range from sterling silver, 14-18k gold, gold-filled, to copper, brass and now artistic wire in colored or non-tarnish forms. With the price of gold and silver on the rise, I’ve turned to using non-tarnish artistic wire to incorporate into my creations; allowing me to still get that everlasting high gloss of silver, brass or gold without the tarnish.
Artistic wire is created by Artistic Wire Ltd., offering non-tarnish wire and permanent colored copper wire available in 50 colors and 14 gauges. They also offer silver-plated colored copper wire available in 8 sizes and 13 colors. The wire is either vinyl coated copper or silver-plated and dyed wire, but the shiny silver, gold or brass wires usually have an anti-tarnish coating; allow the wire to resist tarnish as long as the coating is intact. It has a harness of soft in the wire world and generally requires ‘hardening’ to keep its shape. Soft wire bends easier and tends to remain in place once it is bent. Soft wire is perfect for making spirals and other rounded shapes, making it easy to mold the wire into any shape one desires.
Depending on the design I’ll use different gauges of wire; for links in necklaces and bracelets I use heavy 16-18g wire and for small findings I’ll use a medium-small 20-22gauge. And when making the coils in rings I turn to even smaller gauges of 24-28g wire over 18-20g wire. All of these are done using the non-tarnish or coated colored wire; which allows me to bring designs to my customers at the same quality of sterling silver or gold, but at a much lower cost. I still work with sterling silver and will note the wire used in every design, though the luster will eventually fade with sterling silver, non-tarnish wire requires a lot less cleaning to keep the color and shiny effect.
Once the jewelry design is complete I need to harden the wire to keep the desired shape. This is done by putting the piece in a tumbler, with water and cleaner for about 15-20 minutes. This hardens the wire and also cleans the jewelry of any grease, minerals or oils that come from naturally working with the wire and stones. The jewelry is then completely ready to be photographed and wrapped for a show or shipped off to a customer.

My dad is the smartest man in the world. I've been convinced of this since I was maybe 2 years old. Still am, and it's not blindly that I think this. Ask him why he feels the way he does about any given issue, and you'll get some incredibly logical, well-informed reasoning. He's also the strongest. The guy has run a 100-mile race in less than 30 hours. And the bravest. And the kindest. Yup. I'm fairly certain my dad is a super human. He works harder than anyone I've ever met and has this insanely high level of self discipline that I wish I'd inherited. He's taught my brother and sister and I to be fair and keep our integrity. He goes out of his way to make sure we all have the means to follow our desired path. He is patient - most notably on a trip to New York, where he braved 3 Broadway musicals, and waited patiently outside stores while my mom and sister and I shopped. He always puts other's needs before his own. The admirable qualities aside, he also has a fantastic sense of humor. The home he and my mother created for my siblings and I is full of laughter and love. Daddy, you're wonderful. Thank you so much for everything and a belated happy father's day! ?

Choker Style: A choker is generally 15”-16” long and lies up next to your neck. Chokers look really nice with open necklines; round or v-shaped tops.
Princess Style: A princess length is 18”-20” long and lies lower than the choker style. With this style, it more of a relaxed length and works really well with high necklines, such as turtlenecks; or for a different look, wear it with a really low neckline dress or shirt. This style is also great for double-stranded necklaces.
Matinee Style: A matinee necklace is 23”-27” long and usually falls lover over a blouse and works great with layers of jackets or blazers. Matinee length allows freedom to design very striking multiple stand necklaces.
Lariat Style: The lariat length varies from short 36” to as long as 42”. This gives a very flowing and long line for necklaces; can end with charms or pendants.

So, in the last couple of days, I did some more shopping. I seriously should stop. My wallet should shock me every time I try to purchase something.
On Sunday, I went to the Santa Anita mall with my BFF. She is leaving for college on Sunday, and that was probably the last time I would get to spend the day with her. :( She's going to be 5 hours away from me soon, and that's pretty depressing. I need to find a new favorite shopping buddy. Anywho, we went to Forever21, and I got two new tops. Both tops are in dark colors for the Fall, although I have quite a bit of dark colored clothing already. What the heck? It doesn't hurt to have more.I can't wait to wear the ruffle top with my high waisted skirt w/ a patent belt :) As for the babydoll, I can't wait to just wear it with some skinny jeans and black pumps.
Besides that, I also went to the MAC counter at Nordstrom. I finally got their lipstick in 'High Tea'. It's such a lovely nude color. Defintely perfect for everyday wear.
After the mall, we also stopped by Melody's Makeup Outlet. I bought a refill eyeshadow pan in 'Woodwinked' and TokiDoki for Smashbox's Dolcissima lipgloss. The lipgloss is so pretty! It's a light peachy pink. When I got home, I tested it out and layered it on top of my 'High Tea' lipstick. It was like the perfect baby pink lips.
That was pretty much it for Sunday. On Monday, all I did was run a bunch of errands, so that wasn't all that exciting.
Today, I went to the mall with one of my friends to help her with dorm shopping. I, myself, got two pairs of Venice Skinny Jeans from PacSun since I needed new pairs for college.
I got one pair in 'Dark Indigio' and another in 'Classic Indigo'. I pretty much have all the staple washes of jeans, so I'm all set for college...well, at least, for jeans I am. I'm glad this time I went to the mall I actually bought something I needed and nothing else!
Well, I am so tired and sleepy right now. I didn't get a good sleep last night, because their was a helicopter circling around my street 3am in the morning. It was so loud, and I couldn't sleep. Hopefully, I can have a nice sleep tonight and maybe a nice dream!

Title: DIXIE SQUARE -- The Blues Brothers: "A Mall with Everything"
Chase from "The Blues Brothers" filmed at, and inside Dixie Square Mall in Harvey, IL. In 1979, two years after Dixie Square closed, the mall would be remodeled to appear like an operational shopping center, and later trashed by the Bluesmobile and two Illinois State Police cars for the 1980 Universal Pictures' cult favorite "The Blues Brothers". You will notice a few differences in the mall's appearance between the movie and Dixie's days as an active shopping center: -Most notably, the Walgreens Drug Store was dressed as a Toys R Us toy store. Walgreens was one of many stores that refused to be seen in the movie (guess they didnt want to take the "Drive-Thru Pharmacy" to the next level). These stores would be dressed as local businesses or not seen at all. -JEWEL is seen with a mall entrance, however there was never an actual mall entrance to the grocery store. The entrance used was the former JCPenney. The fruit stands hit by the IL Trooper car are still inside Penneys against the northwest wall. -Penney's is seen with newer "JCPenney" signage. When the store was open it never used the JCPenney signage. -Woolworth was dressed-up as the Depatso Oldsmobile dealership for the movie. Not seen in the movie are: Block D Turn*Style Block A Montgomery Ward When I visited Dixie Square in January, some artifacts dating back to the mall's days as a Hollywood set were still there. Many, however, have been stolen or destroyed. -The window display frame for Frank's Drum Shop that was not hit by the BluMo is still intact. -Some of the red banners hanging from the cieling are still there, however most have been burned. -Some of the colorful wallpaper inside Toys R Us is still intact, however the painted "Toys R Us" signs featuring Geoffrey the Giraffe were either destroyed or stolen over the years. -Finally the foundations for the art tent are still there, though vandalized. After eight weeks of filming, the mall was somewhat cleaned up and later Harvey-Dixmoor school district would use the building as a temporary school in the very early 1980s while a new elementary school was under construction. This is why a basketball hoop is inside Turn*Style. The district attempted to sue director John Landis and Universal for unrepaired damages to the mall, though the suit was dismissed. This would be the last use of the building, as it was sealed once the school was complete.
