Update

por | | 0 comments

Hi friends. I thought I'd update you on the family emergency I referred to yesterday.  Here's the situation:
- My mom was hospitalized on Sunday night in an emergency situation. She's still in the hospital.  She's been sick for a long time.  Her problems are more than just physical and that is the hardest part.
-As you can imagine between this situation, the job change, and the upcoming wedding, I am slightly overwhelmed.
-By "slightly overwhelmed" I mean I'd like curl up in bed and stay there for a long while.
-I have some amazing friends and a loving partner who never gives up on me and I am truly loved.  This is why I am not in bed right now.
-It's in these times, the times I feel like I want to give up, that I realize just how strong I really am.  Sometimes I need a gentle reminder.

Style Inspiration: Nadinoo

I've been drooling over British label Nadinoo's playful creations for some time now and the new Autumn/Winter 2010 collection is no exception.  I love everything about this look including the billowy silhouettes, short hemline, chunky mary janes and oxfords, and of course the fun socks. The ochre + cerulean combination in this outfit is perfection.  Check out Nadinoo's pretty blog, etsy shop, or online boutique for more drool worthy outfits.

Okay so here's the deal........I got a heap of crew on my Facebook who i suspect are far more interesting then I am.......hence periodically i get to give one of them the same list of questions and it saves me thinking of something witty to write on this blog myself.....

First Up.....Dj Nino Brown!
Chances are, if you dig urban music, then this guy needs no introduction. Australia's top Urban Dj, Brown is the man behind the Blazin mix cd's, hosts his own radio show Trailblazin Radio, has supported the likes of Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z, Rhianna, Diddy along with a long list of others, and is constantly touring the country to sell out shows......
What you may not know is that he also owns two Siamese cats and has discovered a newfound fondness for Dog Walking......

Without further ado, here's his answers (unedited...although i was tempted)

Name?: " Mister Jean aka DJ Nino Brown " (editor's note: i'll believe it when i see the legal paperwork!)

Location?: "Australia wide ! "

What do you do?: "Dj & make people dance "

Most people don’t know that i.......... "Love big butts and I cannot lie"
(editor's note: it was meant to be something we all DIDN'T know!)

I wish............... " people still bought music ! "

I love........... "sneakers, and lately mostly air max! "

My childhood hero was........ "Kate Jean " (editor's note!.....when Brown was a kid i wasn't even a twinkle in my Fathers eye)

My favourite Ep of all time is.......... "hard one, but of late, Joell Ortiz - Farewell Summer "

I refuse to delete Kate Jean off my Facebook friend list because........" she shaves the side of her head and I think that's sexy ! "

Art: Wendy MacNaughton

por | | 0 comments

These works are from the 'People' series by Wendy MacNaughton.  Her watercolor and ink illustrations are both wonderfully detailed and understated.  The subjects walk the caricature line finely without losing the emotion of a realistic rendering.  Wendy has a degree in both art and social work (I think we'd have some things in common) and has an accomplished an impressive amount of humanitarian deeds.  You can read more about the artist here and purchase some of her work here (or by contacting her directly).

Wired Earthy Agate Slice Pendants

por | | 0 comments
Wired Earthy Agate Slice PendantsIn these designs I’ve started with focal pendant in beautiful agate slices. They are all naturally colored in shades of earthy fall – tan, green, gray-blue, rust, cream, white, and brown. The pendants are highly polished on both sides and the edges have been left slightly raw to rough; giving a true ‘earth’ look and feel to the pendants. The pendant is a free form wire wrap in shiny non-tarnish gold wire.

In this design (to the right) I’ve used the green agate slice and surrounded it with mosaic turquoise, toffee colored ceramic beads, gold tone spacers, and a touch of ivoryite for bold color. The pendant is wired in non-tarnish bronze wire.

Wired Earthy Agate Slice Pendants

This design (to the left) starts with a lovely focal pendant in an odd angular oval shape. The agate has more roughness to the edges is quite large, making it a perfect single pendant with matching swirl earrings. The wire is non-tarnish brass wire.

The last design (to the right) is a medium sized agate oval wired in non-tarnish brass wire. The base of the necklace is blue denim lapis, ivoryite, smooth brass rounds, and light blue-white lampwork beads.

Agates: Balancing physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual energies; perceptiveness, strength, inspiration, awakening talents.

Title: BodyTalk your Brain

http://www.bodytalkspace.com BodyTalk is a healthcare system that works with to harmonize the body on all levels. The premise is that the body is designed to heal itself, which is does through communication. BodyTalk works to improve the communication systems within the body so that it can be more efficient and heal itself more effectively. Balancing the cortices is one of the most important techniques in BodyTalk. It works to balance the brain, which is involved in everything we do! Everything in the body is reflected in the brain, therefor by balancing the cortices we are bringing attention to brain, and helping to improve it's function and subsequently the health of the entire body. One of the other very important things about balancing the cortices is that it helps to shift the body and mind out of 'fight or flight' (sympathetic) and into 'growth and healing' (parasympathetic). We often get stuck in flight or flight which causes great stress to the body, and breaks sown those communication pathways in the body. It's like too many plugs are plugged in and our circuits 'blow'. This causes us to get stuck in a stressful state, and from this place, everything is more difficult- including healing. Balancing the cortices also balanced the right/left brain which is fundamental for a healthy body and mind. The right brain is the more intuitive side, imagination and it can work holistically- looking at the big picture. It is responsible for our creativity and and artistic abilities. The left brain is responsible for our reasoning, logic and thought. It looks at the details and works in a linear way therefor it is slower. It is our knowledge and our learned behaviors. Most people spend most of their time in their left brain, with periods in the right brain. Usually it is inconsistent and we will flip flop between the two or spend most time in just the left brian. What we would like is to have both sides of the brain working together to provide us with the ability to connect to the big pictures whilst knowing the details, have logic AND intuition, be able to be aware of where we're going at the same time as knowing the steps to take.... Balancing the cortices daily starts to bring the body and brain back to a state of health where we can naturally move between different events without getting stuck in fight or flight and start to live using our whole brain. I highly recommend balancing your cortices in the morning when you wake up, before you go to sleep, and if you have any kind of shock or trauma. If you have an accident, a headache, cut yourself, are stressed out, receive some bad news... tap out your cortices and watch how you relax and return to a place where the body can start healing. Get out of shock, and start healing! Try it, and let me know how you get on! Laura Hames Franklin, laurahames@me.com http://www.bodytalkspace.com "The rational mind is a faithful servant, and the intuitive mind in a sacred gift. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift." Albert Einstein.

Indie Appreciation Week: My Top 10 places to visit

Dearest Devotees,

Like I mentioned in my first indie appreciation week post, to me part of being independent means being free to travel and explore the world around me. I absolutely adore travelling, and I never feel more at ease with myself than when I am in the process of moving. Packing, unpacking and exploring new places are actions that are second nature to me. The way people have adventure lists of death defying/ extremely thrilling activities they want to do like bungee jumping and skydiving is the way I have a running list of places that I really want to go always at the ready. I see the world as an exciting mélange of people with different cultures, histories, and lifestyles and getting to live these experiences really thrills me. Below are the top 10 places I currently desire to see:

10.Cairo, Egypt: Oh the richness of culture with just a dash of danger that seeing the pyramids would give me! From what I've heard Cairo is a city that is just bursting with life in which the new and the old live peacefully side. I also long to have a camel ride along the desert to the sunrise.

9.Dublin, Democrat Republic of Ireland :I love Northern Ireland dearly. It is a place that is truly close to my heart and I've driven through Dublin before but I've never really seen it before. I love Gaelic. I think it’s a beautiful language and I feel it would be really nice to see it used more.

8.Dubai, United Arab Emirates- It's so exotically beautiful there and apparently they have a booming arts and crafts industry with lovely textiles and even more stunning jewelry. Add that to the enlarged beach city feel and you're looking at a lovely holiday.

Indie Appreciation Week: My Top 10 places to visit

7.Toronto, Canada: pure curiousity and lovely grade school friends to see.

6.Sydney, Australia: also sheer curiousity with the added possibility of running into Natalie Tran, one of my favorite youtubers.

5.Milan and Florence, Italy: Apparently they are the textile and art capitals of the world. I would love to see these assertations proved.

4.Barcelona, Spain: Been to Madrid and I liked it but something tells me I will probably fall in love with the regal elegance of Barcelona.

3.Venice, Italy: 1. It’s VENICE! 2. It may be one of the most unusual cities ever (structurally). 3. I really, really want to sail in a gondola (sea sickness be damned).

2.San Francisco, California: The Academy of Art is there and it’s my current art grad school lust. Also, it’s rumored to be a ridiculously beautiful city what with the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. 3. I am in the United States after all; therefore I must seize the day.

1.Paris, France: Fashion Capital of the world. Home of incredibly stylish men and women and land of so much inspiration. Almost anywhere else on this list can be switched around but Paris is most definitely no.1 for me.

Love you all and Stay inspired,

P.S. So let me know what you think. What places in the world do you really want to see? Feel free to let me know in the comments below.

I don't believe Vincent Ferrari was entirely correct yesterday when he put out the feelers for validation from his audience: insignificantthoughts.com/?2010/?12/?07/ ?it-tv-episode-349-validation Rather, what I think he was driving at to my ear sounded heaps more like appreciation, more than anything. Here is my take on it, and at $5/month to hear Vinny offer opinions and punditry on the issues of the political day? You've probably spent more on coffee today already...
