Hello Weekend

por | | 0 comments

Love is in the air this weekend friends!  One of my very best friends is getting married tomorrow.  B is officiating the wedding and I'll be playing "support staff" as a bridesmaid.  I cannot wait and I'm so happy for KT and Peter.  Wedding are generally fun but it's always something special when you can play an active role and when the two people getting married are like family.  It's definitely something to celebrate.  What are you doing this weekend? Any fun plans?

Title: Hatsune Miku - The World in Weekend (English & romaji subs)

It's a lovely folk-like song. It is simple but have much magnetism, I think. I continue listening since this new year. Original by TOKOTOKO a.k.a. ????P (Nishizawa-san P) at Niconico, From http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm9269628 Author's comment (translation): * I'm TOKOTOKO (Nishizawa-san P). Listen in emotion of evening to night. * Feeling of "loving" is surprisingly dirty. Sad things should be shown brightly. It's impossible to naturally talk to the lover. It is such a song. * Both current Miku and Append Soft-ß were used. * Illustrations by ??? (Tsumito). Notes: Append Soft-ß = A new tone of Miku's voice on beta version. Besides, there're Dark, Vivid, Very Small and Solid. These are scheduled to be released as "CV01 Hatsune Miku Append" in the future. ----- Translation lyrics: Your lover's left hand is in your right hand Please lend me your free left hand On the next bench, singing a song of the weekend Worn-out "love" is just ridiculous Even if you encounter any sadness in future You can consider that's due to me and so Keep smiling forever Hello, Hello, Can you hear me? Hello, Hello, Hello Hello, Hello, Can my voice reach to you? Singing a song of the doomsday that can't be looked straight Should become the last song for you and your lover My loudly throbbing heart Got better a little if I didn't forget what the love was, I wonder Hello, Hello, Is it carrying well? Hello, Hello, Hello I'm not clever as much as being able to say "I love you" You can lose your way many times You can fall down many times You can mistake many times Because I'll drink off all of them Hello, Hello, Any other doesn't come to me Listen, Dear, Let me stay the best for you Hello, Hello, Can you hear me? Hello, Hello, Hello Hello, Hello, Can my voice reach to you? Eardrum is trembling

Art: Wendy MacNaughton

por | | 0 comments

These works are from the 'People' series by Wendy MacNaughton.  Her watercolor and ink illustrations are both wonderfully detailed and understated.  The subjects walk the caricature line finely without losing the emotion of a realistic rendering.  Wendy has a degree in both art and social work (I think we'd have some things in common) and has an accomplished an impressive amount of humanitarian deeds.  You can read more about the artist here and purchase some of her work here (or by contacting her directly).

Love and Relationships: Music Therapy Part 4- Indie Music Love

Love and Relationships: Music Therapy Part 4- Indie Music Love

Dearest Devotees,

In keeping with Indie Appreciation Week, here are some of my favorite indie-related songs. Some of them are by undiscovered/independent musicians, some of them have certain musical qualities (usually acoustic/ primarily vocal leanings) that lend them to being classified as "indie", and the rest of them are just songs that I feel somehow celebrate being independent. I'm also borrowing the idea of Krissy from Shimmer Like Gold, and have included links
Love and Relationships: Music Therapy Part 4- Indie Music Love
to a complete playlist of all the songs on youtube that I will link to at the bottom of this post. Feel free to play these songs while cross-training your art, doing chores/ homework, or doing nothing at all but relaxing. Remember that if you feel constrained by the walls, there's no time like the summer to take full advantage of the great outdoors.

I hope these songs send you to your happy and proud to be independent place too :)

How to know if you're a Music Producer

por | | 0 comments

How to know if you're a Music Producer
Dearest Devotees,

In the How to Know if You're a Songwriter post I mentioned I would do a couple more music related posts, because of how much music means to me. I really like doing these kind of posts because they give you an insight into the person I really am, and all the things that make up an average day in my life. I also really love these posts because they give me the opportunity to connect with other like-minded spirits and also to appreciate the diversity of characteristics and characters that make up my devotee base. Much like the previously mentioned post on being a songwriter, the things I list below are just characteristics I've noticed in people who are/ want to be music producers. So without further ado here is my list of ways to know if you have music producer potential:

When you hear a song for the first time a video you have instantaneously created begins to play in your head.

You sometimes check up lyrics and analyze them for plot possibilities and video potential

You predict how well a song will do on the charts and at award shows.

You are always very interested in new musical talent.

You try to learn as much as you can about every aspect of music, constantly.

If you are in school you can probably be found taking widely different music and/ or dances classes at the same time.

When your friends invite you to karaoke you give them performance advice and sometimes critique their vocal quality.

You find audio engineering, music theory and even music history oddly fascinating.

You are always clued in with the latest innovations in technology and programming.

You manage crises well.

Business is not your foe.

You know what’s happening in the music industry as its happening in the industry.

After seeing a band perform for the first time you already know their image, style and genre.

Beats are constantly on the end of your finger tips.

You think life should have a soundtrack and may have created a few playlists for important events , describing them.

You know the names of all the top producers in the music industry.

When you hear about a music video for the first time you ask for the label/ producer not the artist

You love bringing music to life.

You critique videos that you see on TV (or youtube) and sometimes envision how you could have done it better.

How to know if you're a Music Producer

You appreciate all the different genres of music and sometimes draw inspiration from two widely different genres, to create the next big thing.

You know that songwriting and producing through social networking are two major ways to enter the industry.

You try to create the perfect environment and medium to transfer the emotional quality of the music from the artist to the audience.

You are always on the lookout for unexpectedly amazing collaborations between artists in the music industry.

You are aware that music production is really tasking, and sometimes not as glamorous as it’s made out to be but you love it anyway.

Love you all and Stay inspired,

Chocolate & Cherries – New Design
Chocolate & Cherries – New DesignThis brand new design created this week, is a little classy and a little sassy. Made from a combination of natural gemstones in Chocolate Jasper and Cherry Quartz; each Jasper stone has been accented with pewter filigree end-caps and I’ve captured the Cherry Quartz in silver toned wire cages. Between each section are triangle shaped seed beads in a pink lined color. This fun classic is 23” (58cm) long with matching earrings dangling at 1” (2.5cm). This is a one-of-a-kind piece and if you are interested in purchasing please contact me.

Tucson 2010 Countdown

por | | 0 comments
Tucson 2010 CountdownThe big event is almost here; time to get ready for Tucson 2010!! If you haven’t already made your reservations (plane, hotel, car, etc.), now is the time to do so before you miss out on the biggest event for all gem, mineral, and rock enthusiasts.

Every year, Tucson is host to the United States largest Gem and Mineral show; starting late January and running thru the middle of February. Dealers, wholesalers, and buyers all converge on the small southern Arizona town to discuss, barter, sale, buy, meet & great, and see what is new (and old) in the industry. There are hundreds of shows with thousands of vendors from all over the globe and across the United States, with one thing in common; show what they have and entice us with the newest, latest and greatest.

Some of the following shows are ones that I recommend and do attend. You’ll find a wide selection of finished jewelry, tools, findings, displays, beads, gems, lapidary, and much much more. These shows as most in the Tucson area require wholesale and business industry credentials to get into them. Check with each show’s site to pre-register for many of them, see details and check for dates; as this year, several of the shows do not overlap as in past years.

Tucson 2010 CountdownStreet Vendors: This is my favorite place to shop; I’ve gotten some of the most unique and unusual items here. Miles and miles of vendors take over the hotels, parking lots, and anything in-between. Across the street from the freeway, starting at Congress and running all the way down past Freeway Aveune, you can find any type of vendor; beads, findings, silver, raw materials, lapidary, finished products, gemstones, clothes, bags; just to name a few. And best of all, most are open to the public, however check with vendors before purchase to make sure they don’t require a wholesale license.

JOGS: If you’re looking for Amber or Southwest jewelry, this is the place to be. Dealers from around the globe bring the best and finest in Amber and southwest products. The show also hosts many vendors of finished products, collectables, and raw materials. This is a wholesale only show and requires a Tax ID to register and attend.
Tucson 2010 Countdown
G&LW (Gem Mall, Holidome, Grants Inn): At many of these shows you can find international dealers and wholesalers; pearls, turquoise, silver/copper, finished products, beads galore, beading findings/products, displays, and much more. This show is a wholesale only and requires Tax ID to register and attend.

China Mountain: If Turquoise is what you are after, then you’ll need to visit the buildings located between Gem Mall and Holidome, where you’ll find the well known vendor China Mountain. Plenty of Turquoise and Coral in all different cuts and styles to chose from. Also a wholesale vendor, but you’ll need to check with them at the site to see if they will sell retail.

Tucson 2010 CountdownElectric Park RV: Though I’ve only attended this one once, I understand it is a great place to get lapidary, rocks, minerals, or slabs; so I’ve added it back onto my list for this year’s trip. Most sell either wholesale or retail so check with each vendor before purchase.

While this is just a hint of what’s at Tucson, there are also many other shows like the AGTA GemFair Tucson, GJX Gem & Jewelry Show, Tucson Gem & Mineral Show, Madagascar Minerals Gem Show, Rio Grande Catalog In Motion and Swarovski Elements-Create Your Style 2010 shows. Several are also offering many of the national instructors for classes and seminars, so check with your favorite instructor or show for schedules and details.

Mark your calendar, make your reservations and start the count-down! Tucson 2010 is just around the corner.
