Here Endth National Emo Week

por | | 0 comments
So having left the house and wandered down the street to Nate’s stoop. 5 cigarettes, a chat with my bestie and a pair of Grandpa Slippers later, things have fallen into perspective….

I’ve been a miserable cow all week and I thought it was simply because of what had (or more appropriately hadn’t) been happening in my love life….

Long story short, I never thought I’d having feelings for someone so soon after my last relationship….and its pretty rare to stumble across genuinely beautiful, amazing people you feel you could fall for….knowing how rare it is, it’s a bit of a kick in the teeth to start to open up to someone, only to get rejected… truth be told, I’m guilty of treading on one or two hearts myself so this is probably some long overdue karma.

I felt like a failure and a bit lost……something has been missing inside of me for awhile now and as much as I’ve tried to fill the void with boys, booze and ridiculous work benders (try 38hrs at the day job and 7 Dj gigs in the space of one week on an average of about 4hrs sleep per night) its simply made me feel more and more empty…..

But I’ve realized what it is……I miss my creativity. I miss art. I miss making beautiful things and working on projects for the sake of artistic fulfillment……

I’ve moved home so many times the last couple of months that all my sewing machines, fabric, art bits and bobs and all my jewellery stuff have pretty much lived in storage (and are currently rotting in the garage of the last house I was staying at until I can afford a removalist). I haven’t had a space to call my own that I feel comfortable to relax and be creative in until just recently. In terms of music, I’d neglected the sound I was actually passionate about in order to make money with all the easy RnB gigs that were being offered to me, and whilst I’d been successful in landing club work, in actual fact, deep down, I felt like a failure because I wasn’t following my heart….. and in terms of relationships, I realized that the most important relationship in my life is with myself and my creativity, and when I’m not true to it I become a ratty mess that no one else is going to want to deal with anyway.

So here’s to a new outlook and some exciting change……
I’m foregoing all the random crap I generally waste my money on this week and booking Man With A Van to bring all of my studio equipment and the rest of my stuff to my new home.

I’d been pondering it for awhile but I’m ready to start storyboarding for a new wearable art collection….the fact I’ve had stockists asking me about this for months but never got around to it because I was too busy hating my evenings playing Akon in shit rnb clubs is disgusting….

On Sat I quit my last remaining Rnb gig……my schedule is now free to concentrate on the bookings I actually care about. Yes I’ll miss the money but god it feels like such a weight off my chest

Scott and I have decided to start our own night…..2 step and uk garage. I very much doubt we’ll make any money out of it but its something we’re both passionate about and it will be a great way to catch up with our friends on a regular basis. I’ve also got a new Sat night launching which is a world music/instrumental/chilled house/experimental lounge evening kicking off which we’re looking at combining with a strong exotic/artistic visual presence.

I guess it’s simply time to get back to the real me…….the kooky, creative kid who always liked to paint whilst listening to BBC audio stories. If these women can make a success by being true to themselves and their art, then I can too…

I’m off for an early night and a date with my sketchbook xx

A very quick improvised jam over Steve Lawson's 'Here Endeth the Lesson', expanding on some of Steve's nice motifs. My phrasing is nowhere near as good as his and this video is an insult to the virtuoso that is Lawson...but hey, i gave it a go anyway. Few bum phrases here and there but eh, i'll survive! Taken off the free downloadable album of his titled "Lessons Learned From An Aged Feline Pt.1" at his website http://www.stevelawson.net/wordpress/ I'm just too awesome for the Looperlative looper, so i used my Boss RC-2 to loop this instead. lol. Wounded Art

por | | 0 comments

These drawings by Inga Birgisdóttir are beautifully rendered while the subject matter walks the line between endearing and off putting which I suppose is why I'm intrigued.  No one likes to see a wounded animal but I suppose if you're going to see one, these are quite beautiful. (Please excuse the terribly cheesy title.  I couldn't help myself.)

If I Had One Wish... I would be a gypsy

por | | 0 comments

If I Had One Wish... I would be a gypsy

Dearest Devotees,

Spinning silks in shades of light
Velvet dark as shadowed night.

Whirling dancers with eyes like jet
Centuries have not tamed us yet!

Ever since I first watched Gypsy Girl when I was 10, and read all of the books in the series by Elizabeth Arnold about a young gypsy girl who lived with her gypsy family in their caravan at the end of a suburban street, I've been intrigued by the romanticized gypsy life. All the colors in their clothes and in their homes, their free-spiritedness, closeness to nature and artistic abilities, their inherent quirkiness and individuality, and familial closeness caught my attention. Our shared love of traveling and the fact that I have spent most of my life on the move, also attracted me and ever since then my style has had some romany (gypsy-related) elements in it. If you are like me and harbor dreams of being a gypsy, read on.

Fashion and Style

The easiest way to embrace this style is by channeling your bohemian leanings. The bohemian trend was largely influenced by romany style dressing. So think gypsy skirts, peasant tops, tunics, exotic prints, tons of jewelry and color (especially jewel tones).

Beauty

When it comes to the gypsy style beauty there are two ways you can go: natural or jeweled. The Natural look has to do with accenting your current attributes in such a way that you don't look like you are wearing make-up. The jeweled look has to do with jewel tone polish and eye-shadow, smokey-black eyes with black mascara and eyeliner and lightly glosses lips.

What to do

Try out palm reading.

Go thrift store and antique shop hunting. You can probably pick up some really fantastic unique pieces for your wardrobe.

Listen to "indie" type music. Think lighthearted, light-spirited acoustic style music e.g anything Iron and Wine, Blue glass by Furlough, etc.

Go horseback riding.

Take your favorite art supplies ( notebook and pen, sketchbook and pencil, paints, camera, etc) and go to your closest connection to nature. Spend an afternoon allowing nature to inspire you.

Lay in a field and watch clouds go by or if its raining feel free to play in the rain.

Have friends and family over, and have a bonfire/campfire night out. Dance around the campfire.

Go flower and/or fruit picking.

Explore a nearby town, a different neighborhood, or if you can't physically go anywhere try heading to the library and distancing yourself from reality through reading.

Don't forget to have fun on your own and with other people.

Love you all and Stay inspired,

If I Had One Wish... I would be a gypsy

P.S. So let me know know what you think. Have you ever desired to be a traveller/gypsy/Romany? Feel free to let me know in the comments below.

P.P.S I am in no way an expert and honestly this is all for fun, and based off fictional gypsies. I do not intend to offend anyone and if you happen to know more about the subject I would most definitely love to hear from you via email at aury4eva@gmail.com.

Love....

por | | 0 comments

My God I've made some mistakes with this blog.....!

I wear my heart on my sleeve....

always have....

probably always will....

long, long ago, in the early days of my blog, a girl, a total stranger sent me an email....

apparently i'd written a blog post about my love life and my life in general which struck home with her......

truth be told i have no idea what i wrote or what it was about specifically....

what i do remember is the raw honesty and heartfelt emotion in her letter....

She was in a physically abusive relationship....

She finally walked out.....

The fact that my words apparently were some of which influenced her to opt out and walk away still to this day, leaves me speechless

Ever since then, i've made a vow to keep it real, honest and true up on here......there have been times in my life people have dropped comments to me which i'm sure to them were insignificant, yet meant the world to me, or helped clarify a situation i was in....

so i blog.....on the real

its cost me relationships.......

in fact for one relationship i had to go through and delete everything relating to my past love life on here, which is why if you look back now, this site is fairly clean.....

i love with all of my heart.
i'm different.
i have a creative heart.

art is life..........and alot of the time life as my art ends up here.

alot of people don't understand that.....

i'm learning to balance my creative verbal rants with others privacy....

so i guess all i have to say tonight is....

i'm in love......
no fancy bullshit this time......
two people who respect each other as individuals.....
two people who are the best and closest of friends....
two people who share a world which is entirely their own.
happily ever after is bullshit, but two people willing to discuss, negotiate, work towards a life goal....

enough said.

Love....

Every Bonnie needs a Clyde x

Title: Matchbook Romance- Lovers & Liars (Lyrics)

Lyrics Bellow Let's start out by starting over. What did I expect? You're no good at lying and I'm no good at comebacks. But you're so untouchable. I'm oh-so-terrible at this. I'm terrible at this, you know. Don't hold this against me. I've already said I'm sorry. And I bet you've got every word I said memorized in your head. And you'll use every one of them, and you'll use every one of them against me. Don't hold this against me. I've already said I'm sorry. (Tell all your friends about me) Don't hold this against me. I've already said I'm sorry. I hope you choke on every word you spoke when you were screaming at me. And realize how many times I've tried, but that's wishful thinking. All I want is an apology for what you did and how you treated me. Get me far away, or at least as far as this car will take me. I hope you choke on every word you spoke when you were screaming at me. (Get me far away, or at least as far as this car will take me) (Tell all your friends about me) And realize how many times I've tried, but that's wishful thinking. (Get me far away, or at least as far as this car will take me) (Tell all your friends about me) All I want is an apology for what you did and how you treated me. (Get me far away, or at least as far as this car will take me) (Tell all your friends about me) I hope you choke on every word you spoke, I hope you choke on every word you spoke (Get me far away, get me far away...) (Tell all your friends...) Don't hold this against me. I've already said I'm sorry. (Tell all your friends about me) Don't (Tell all your friends about me) hold this against me (Tell all your friends about me) I've already said I'm sorry (Tell all your friends about me)
Title: Why My Chemical Romance is NOT a suicide cult!!!!!!

This video is an ultimate collection of clips proving that My Chemical Romance do not want everyone to kill themselves and are not promoting self harm in their lyrics!!! In May 2008 the Daily Mail wrote two articles called "Why no child is safe from the sinister cult of emo" and "Girl, 13, hangs herself after becoming obsessed with Emo 'suicide cult' rock band" (My Chemical Romance), after Hannah Bond, a 13 year old girl, killed herself. She classed herself as an emo and was a fan of My Chemical Romance. They said that emo "links death with glamour" and that "Emo fans wear dark clothes, practise self-harm and listen to 'suicide cult' rock bands". This is a complete generalisation and a very stereotypical view that shows no research went into really finding out about them. They also said that "One of the foremost of these 'suicide cult' bands is My Chemical Romance" First off, My Chemical Romance has ALWAYS denied being emo and are completely against self harm and suicide. In fact they really want to help you and save your life if you are feeling depressed. The Daily Mail also wrote that when Hannah was discovered with cuts on her arms "she told [her parents] she'd inflicted the wounds herself and that it was part of an emo 'initiation ceremony'". I have never ever heard of this before - an emo initiation ceremony????? They also (ignorantly) said that "the 'black parade' is a place where emos believe they will go when they die". This is ridiculous. The Black Parade is the name of My Chemical Romance's 3rd album. It is not emo heaven. They do not know what they are talking about. I personally believe that many people who are already depressed/suicidal/have tendancies to self harm, may be attracted to My Chemical Romance because, yes, their lyrics do talk about death. But MCR cannot be blamed for these people's problems. They must already have things going on in their life that are making them feel like this - music often HELPS people to cope when they have issues to deal with. I do not own any of the clips but I have only taken small sections, so I hope no one is offended by this.

The Weekend That Was.....

por | | 0 comments
Generally speaking, the less photo's i take, the bigger the weekend has been....... the one just past was no exception (STILL in recovery mode)

Thursday Night Suez and i played Hangtime @ Eurotrash. Without a doubt our favourite club night to play at and pretty much the only night we book on the regular where we can actually play the music we love. Hooked Weezy up with a Hamburger phone, filmed some more wrong way up drunken footage (yes, it will be hitting You Tube later) and i embraced yellow eyeshadow with debatable results.
The Weekend That Was.....
The Weekend That Was.....The Weekend That Was.....Friday Night i dropped an RnB set at First Floor before heaving over to The Colonial.....lost track of the amount of times i told people i'm not an RnB Dj

Saturday night headed over to Chasers for more RnB......getting paid is great but i had to spin so much Akon/Usher/Beyonce this weekend i wanted to self harm....

I'm off to belt some Bloody Beetroots out simply to regain my sanity.......

p.s how could i forget!!! Sunday was a chill out day. Headed to Northcote with a mate only to discover these pimping grandpa slippers at the $2 shop.........yes Suez, these are your present, got myself a matching pair! hahaThe Weekend That Was.....

Title: Diplomats Son - Vampire Weekend (Album Version)

LYRICS: It's not right but it's now or never And if I wait could I ever forgive myself? On a night when the moon glows yellow in the riptide With the light from the TV's buzzing in the house Cuz I'm gonna cut it where I can And then I'm gonna duck out behind them If I ever had a chance it's now then But I never had the feeling I could offer that to you To offer it to you would be cruel When all I want to do is use, use you He was a diplomat's son It was 81 Dressed in white with my car keys hidden in the kitchen I could sleep wherever I lay my head And the sight of your two shoes sitting in the bathtub Let me know that I shouldn't give up just yet Cuz I'm gonna take it from Simon And then I'm gonna duck out behind them If I ever had a chance it's now then But I never had the feeling I could offer that to you To offer it to you would be cruel When all I want to do is use, use you He was a diplomat's son It was 81 I know, you'll say I'm not doing it right But this is how I want it I can't go back To how I felt before That night I smoked a joint With my best friend We found ourselves in bed When I woke up he was gone He was the diplomat's son It was 81 Looking out at the ice-cold water all around me I can't feel any traces of that other place In the dark when the wind comes racing off the river There's a car all black with diplomatic plates
