I have found true love in the field of Costume Design and although Fashion Design will always be my first love, Costuming has quite literally swept me off my feet. Costume design is the art of creating a look that portrays a certain character or that helps a performer tell a certain story.
Costume production is the actual making of the aforementioned costumes. I find costuming is like a mix of fashion and literature and I think this is why it appeals to me so much. So some of you have expressed interest in the field and since I really want to work on my skills, I have decided to do blog posts on how I would style characters from different plays, movies and productions. Some of the productions may be popular ones you can recognise or they may be less expected or more unusual ones e.g ideas for a music video. Ophelia from William Shakespeare's Hamlet:
Time period and place I would set it in:
Late 19th Century England
Plot summary: Can be found here, but basically Hamlet is a play about a young prince who's father is killed by his own brother, a brother who soon goes on to marry his late brother's widow and become king. Hamlet figures out the truth and proceeds to seek vengeance on his uncle, all the while losing his mind in the process and hurting people he loves, because of his high level of anxiety.
Character Summary: Ophelia is an innocent, naive and beautiful girl who is in love with Hamlet. She is hurt by Hamlet's sometimes rash behavior and is strictly obedient to her father's word. She lets him control her life and when he tells her to break off her relationship with Hamlet she does so, despite the fact she still cares for him. Then, when Hamlet in his crazed state kills her father, she is pushed over the edge and loses her mind. She begins to spend her days picking flowers and singing nonsensical songs until she drowns herself in a river.

Today is the last day of 2010, and this year has been such a rush. I have to admit that I really slacked off with this blog during this entire year, and I have not really posted much at all. It has been a really rough year, and there were a lot of unfortunate things (which I won't go into detail because I don't need to burden you all with my stories) that have happened. It really hindered my progress on this blog. I hope you all forgive me, and I will try my hardest to improve in 2011 to really deliver what you were all expecting to see. I am very backed up in reviews and such, and I feel so bad about it. Thank you for all of you who are still with me. I can't wait to start fresh in the new year, and for the last post of the year, I decided to do my Bought and Loved Products post that was very well received last year.
Please note that these are products that I have bought and used for 2010 ONLY, and they do not include products that I still love that I bought in previous years. I decided to do this because if I didn't, the list would just go on and on. I hope you all enjoy nonetheless. If there are any products any of you want a full review on (and you don't mind waiting awhile for it XD) please let me know, and I will add it to my never ending list.
Nexcare 3M Acne Dressing - These little acne patches from Nexcare have been a life saver and really helpful throughout this year. These are basically little semi-clear circle patches you can stick on pimples, and it will help the process go by faster. For pimples that have already come to a head, I stick one of these suckers on before bed and the next morning the patch will have sucked out all of the sebum (yeah, I know it sounds kind of gross XD). All in all, I love these! The only bad thing about it is that it is only available in Asia so I have to get my cousin to send me stock every couple of months.
Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion - We all know that sunscreen is a necessity, rain or shine! But I have to be honest, I never liked wearing sunscreen because it made my face sticky and greasy and my face is oily enough on its own. Therefore, I use to often just skip out on it all together even though that is a really bad habit. I saw this product at TJ Maxx and decided to pick it up on a whim. My gosh! I am so happy that I did because it has changed my perception on sunscreen. It's a liquidy type of sunscreen which I love because it's light and not sticky at all! Most of all it doesn't make my face more oily than it normally would be. Now, I don't mind putting sunscreen on at all.
Shiseido Perfect Oil -I truly bought this on a whim, because I saw it at one of my local Asian grocers for a really good price. I've personally always tried to stay away from cleansing oils because I was afraid they would just make my face more oily or prone to breakouts. I use to use my Clinique makeup remover to remove my eye makeup, and use makeup removing wipes to remove my face makeup. Now I just use this product all over my face and it literally takes EVERYTHING off! Waterproof mascara, eyeliner, sticky glosses, you name it. It will come off. Best of all, it doesn't break me out. It is water activated, so after I massage the oil all over my face to dissolve my makeup, I just splash my face with water and it turns into this milky substance. It's almost like a milk cleanser. After it's all off my face, there's no greasy feeling at all.
Shu Uemura Face Architect Foundation - This was my first ever high end foundation, and I absolutely love this. It doesn't make my face break out, which is always a plus, and it's really light. It does not make my face cakey, and all in all I am glad I picked this up during one of their sales.
Rock & Republic Contrived Pressed Blushes - These blushes are pretty self-explanatory. Everyone has been crazy for these, and I have a total of 6 that I picked up! They are super pigmented and finely milled. I love these, and ever since I started using them I pretty much neglected all of my other blushes. These are a definite a must have!
Urban Decay Naked Palette - This palette is a gem, and I'm sure everyone has heard about it because it was such a hard item to get your hands on. I'm always traveling back and forth from my parent's house and my apartment at school all year long. This palette is great because I can just take this and I am all set. I don't wear eyeshadow on a daily basis but if I do, most of the time I tend to stick to the good old neutrals. It's the only palette I have been using since I got it and it is worth every penny.
Lancome Artliner - I love this eyeliner, period. It's so easy and quick, and I have been using it everyday for the past 6 months. I love how black it is, and it does not smudge on me at all. I have tried the alternative L'oreal one, but I still prefer this one any day.
Shiseido Majolica Majorica Lash Expander Frame Plus - This mascara is awesome! It makes my lashes super long and it has impeccable staying power. I was hesitant to try it at first because I was afraid the fibers would flake off and get into my contacts, but it doesn't. The comb like brush is wonderful because I can apply my mascara with ease. It also works wonders for my lower lashes!
Rimmel Eyebrow Pencil - This was my first eyebrow pencil ever, and I have to say for the price it works wonderfully. I used it for most of 2010 until recently. I have stopped using it because my hair is no longer dyed brown and they only come in brownish colors. However, if you have brown hair and want a cheap but effective brow pencil give this a try.
The Face Shop Color Shimmer Lipstick - I picked this up at The Face Shop store in LA during the summer, and I have to say it's really good. It reminds me of the Dior High Shine lipsticks I love because it gives off the same effect. The texture and pigmentation is similar. So basically these lipsticks are a good dupe for the Dior High Shines for a fraction of the cost. I am definitely going to pick up a few more colors the next time I am there.
Chanel Aqualumiere Lipstick - My first Chanel lipstick, and I have to say if it wasn't so expensive I'd be hauling these like crazy. They are so smooth and moisturizing, and they do not make my lips peel at all.
MAC Pro-Long Lustre Lip Color - I have one of these that I got at the CCO, and it has been my go to lip gloss this winter. I love how long lasting it is, and I never have to worry too much about reapplying. I can drink my tea without lip color all over it. I also love the gloss end it comes with because it gives such a beautiful finish. I need to get my hands on more of these!
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss - My favorite drugstore lip gloss! I have 6 of these, and for anyone who wants a good affordable gloss definitely give these a try. I used these a lot during this past summer.

I haven't really blogged lately because there isn't honestly much to say. The only productive thing I've done in the past couple of days was going to IKEA and buying bed sheets and comforters for college. I still have lots of necessities to buy, but I'm going to go try to pick up as much of that as I can tomorrow with my Dad. I'm starting to pack already, because I'm afraid I'll forget things if I do it last minute. I can't believe I'm going off to college in 2 weeks.
Continuing from the topic of college, I got my dorm assignment. I'm going to live in a double in an on campus apartment. I'm going to have 4 suitemates. I've only talked to one of them through facebook and she's really nice. I can't wait to meet her in person. In addition, I finally enrolled for classes. I'm waitlisted on my math class, and I'm crossing my fingers that I'll get in. I'm #1 on the waitlist. Overall, enrollment was a pain to say the least.
What other things have I've been doing you ask? I've been playing Asda Story. It's a MMORPG. It's a fairly new game to the North America. Beta testing ended just a couple of weeks ago. The original version is in Korean and it's called MicMac. I've been playing for about a couple of days now, and I've been liking it so far.
The game has a lot of quests and grinding (game term), but I personally do not mind. It's a nice change for me from playing Ragnarok, which I quit awhile ago. I only have one character so far. I'm a Two Handed Sword Fighter and currently level 22. If anyone plays the game, feel free to message me on the game. My character name is 'Kumiko'.
Moving on, I've also been watching 'Moonlight Resonance' with my mom. It's so addicting. I got into it because 'Heart of Greed' was so good. I haven't loved a TVB series this much in a long time.
I love Raymond Lam! He's so cute and adorable. I hope he ends up with Linda Chung in the end. :) Bosco's cute too but I like Raymond more.

Title: How to Break through a CREATIVE BLOCK
Sometimes I just feel downright lazy, unproductive, and like a complete loser. I feel like I'm wasting my time and that I'm dishonoring my passions, talents, the work that's important to me. Anyone that's dealing with anything at least remotely creative knows what I speak of. Writers call it "writer's block." And I guess a painter would call it "painter's block?" Being a naturally contemplative, calm, meditative, and take-it-easy sort of dude, I can appreciate what it means to constantly take a step back from your work, whatever it may be, and allow the mind to settle and the creative energies to reform. If it wasn't for these sort of meditative breaks of calm, tranquility, and relaxation, I wouldn't be who I am as many artists wouldn't be able to do what they do. But sometimes we go overboard and what starts out to be a nice little break from our passions becomes a stagnancy and laziness creeps in little by little each passing day that we aren't doing what we love. Perhaps we're scared. Perhaps we feel that it's too hard to make our mark on the world with so many other people out there. Perhaps we've lost confidence in ourselves. Perhaps all of these things. When this happens a wall is erected between or passion and ourselves. We become cut off from our own art. Art being the product of our creativity. Artist being one who creates — painter, programmer, accountant, writer, etc. To be more exact, one who creates with love and passion and joy is the Artist. We are all Artists and perhaps most of us don't even know it. So when you stop creating what you love, everything that you are comes to a standstill and it's as if someone presses the pause button on your life. Now you're just breathing, eating, and sleeping, but not living. So here's a little meditation that I came up with to help you breakthrough any creative block you may be facing. 1.)Start out by building space around and inside of yourself. Space being room in your mind — don't think. Space being distance between you and any distractions — nosy parents & neighbors, unwanted noise, little kids running around, anything that can potentially distract you. Do whatever you have to do to find peace and calm throughout your body and spirt. Play soothing and inspirational music. Or perhaps do some yoga poses. Maybe go for a walk. Remember, you don't have to be physically inactive. Though I prefer to sit silently and listen to some good music, usually of soft sounds and less of words, like Sigur Ros, Radiohead, or The Flashbulb. Do this for as long as it takes to get you to that emptiness. Then, gently, almost imperceptibly, allow the passion of your art to fill you. Gradually begin to feel the joy of your passion. Feel the warmth and pleasure of your passion. Don't stick to anything, though. Remain empty. When you feel the excitement of your passion taking over, they joy, just observe it and let it flow through you. If you feel frustrated and blocked, then that's okay too, just let it flow through you. Be gentle with yourself. Remain looses, flexible, and allow yourself to float away in your passion. Do this for 15 minutes if you can. 2.) Then immediately begin your work. If you're a writer, then write. Painter, then paint. Programmer, then program. Activist, then hit the streets. Professional marijuana grower, then into your grow room! Just go do what you love. Regardless of how you feel at this point — inspired or uninspired, creative or stupid — doesn't matter, just jump into the work. Work for a bit, then stop. 3.) Completely leave your work alone for at least a few hours, preferably a day. Allow ideas to come to you during this repose and take mental notes — don't write anything down. No matter how brilliant, just let anything that comes to you just come to you. Same thing with bad feelings, feelings of laziness, unworthiness, etc.. Just let them come and flow through you. Don't hold onto anything and you'll be building up creative energy to pour into your work. 4.) Then get back to your work a day later and repeat steps 1 -3. Do this meditation for 1 - 2 weeks. And if you like the results, you may even choose to do this everyday before you start working. I do. It helps prepare my mind, body, and spirt for the creative work to come. It creates the inner path for Nature to work through me. Terence McKenna said it best: " Nature loves courage. It shows you that it loves courage because it will remove obstacles. Here is a my little rant about Piano lessons. I really feel that they are teaching piano in an unproductive way, trying to teach it all classical instead of chords like guitar. That's why there are all the guitar bands these days, John Mayer, Jack Johnson, and hardly any piano bands like Kean and Maroon 5.
