HAPPY VOW RENEWAL: Loren and Crystal!

por | | 0 comments

The second ceremony of the weekend was in honour of Loren and Crystal's fifth wedding anniversary. The couple chose to renew their vows in a small ceremony that included two friends, on a beautiful hill overlooking Malibu, CA's ocean.

An excerpt from their vow renewal ceremony:

"The word “renew” has slightly different definitions that are all applicable to Loren and Crystal. One definition of renew is ‘to arrange for the extension of’. After five years, Crystal and Loren certainly desire to continue their marriage for five more, ten more, even fifty more years!

"Renew may be defined as ‘To regain the physical or mental vigor of; to restore, revive or replenish’. We seek to renew Crystal and Loren’s wedding vows because they have both worked very hard to overcome difficult challenges in their relationship, and as a result, they both have a better understanding of themselves and of each other.

"Renew can also mean ‘To take up again; to resume or reestablish’.

"Finally, another definition of renew is ‘To repeat so as to reaffirm’. "
(COPYRIGHT VKS 2008)

i feel vow renewals are so important, simply because of a couple's history and experiences together, upon which the vows are renewed.

For more information on vow renewal ceremonies, please contact me through my website, A NON-DENOMINATIONAL CEREMONY.

Title: Gary Null is the Kent Hovind of Alternative Medicine

Thanks to all who mirrored.

Gary Null is the "Grandaddy of All Quacks". He was recently in the news, and I decided to do a little digging on his education, qualifications, and honors. What I learned was... well... not that surprising for a man that sells magnetic bras and chi-enhancing jock straps.

Anyone who thinks Gary is a real contributor to the field of nutrition would do well to read his one 1982 article on garlic, or his Penthouse publications.

I also find it highly suspect that he is both diagnosing the world's ills, and also crassly selling the "cures" on his website.

Custom Fabric Aisle Runner for Anna & Stu

por | | 0 comments

Anna had contacted us for a custom fabric aisle runner for her outdoor wedding ceremony.  She asked for a design that included a lighthouse, and even provided the image that was also used on her stationery.  We did a few proposals and she picked her favorite.  We used the font that also matched her stationery and other printed pieces and she has a completely coordinated look!  We painted her design on heavy weight fabric to stand up to wind and other elements.  It's the perfect finishing touch!

It's like they're reading my mind: Thank you RueLaLa!

por | | 0 comments

Just the other day, I posted about my thoughts for outfits for my upcoming winter bridal showers. I whined a bit about how all the sweater dresses were cute, but only came in blah colors like black and charcoal. And then yesterday, BAM! Rue La La is selling the *exact* sweater dress I had in my post, but in a beautiful wine color AND over 60% off! Yayyyyyyyyy!!!!
It's like they're reading my mind: Thank you RueLaLa!(images from RueLaLa)

Obviously, I had to buy it immediately! I'm a little concerned about the size, but hopefully it fits. Now I just have to decide what to wear with it. Maybe some black tights and patent leather pumps?

Since I'm so excited about RueLaLa right now, I'll share their current membership special. Join for free today, and get a $10 credit towards your first purchase! Join through this link.

Title: Our Feature Presentation: Personalized Aisle Runners

Because weddings are transitioning more into personalized events, rather than traditional proceedings, it's key for brides and grooms to find their ideal blend of modern day trend to everyday wedded tradition. So, what better way to do this than by customizing your time-honored wedding day accessories with your own personalized style?

One accessory that does this beautifully, is the customary "rolling out of the red carpet" aisle runner. Because every bride dreams of that magical moment when the doors open and she walks down towards the man of her dreams, it's important to make the grand entrance count! And nothing will punctuate your entrance more beautifully than one of our Personalized Aisle Runners.

Fashioned in white, non-woven rayon for traditional look, each of our countless aisle runners is individually crafted for every bride and groom. Available in a variety of accent colors, designs and layouts, our runners become an even more one of a kind keepsake when couples add their names, monogram, initials and wedding date to the design of their choice!

Then, with the free personalization intact, newlyweds will be ready to place it down and roll it out for the big day celebration. Because each runner comes kitted with adhesive strip backing for placement and pull cord for easy extension down the aisle, it's no wonder why this has become an instant best seller!

Measuring 36 inches wide by 100 feet long, these ceremony essentials are designed to fit any aisle, and because the personalization is placed 8 feet from the top, photographers will easily be given a stand-out focal point to capture on the day you say "I do."

But don't let the fun end there! Really let your creativity run wild and line the aisle with petals, tulle, twinkle lights or even candles for added romance. Because it has a look that works just as beautifully inside a traditional church, as it does outside surrounded by nature, you'll see how easily you can instantly transform any location into a ceremony-ready site.

And for even more ways to create an all-around unified theme - check out our long list of matching products that will have your guests: Wedding banners, table runners, photo booth backdrops, cake toppers and surround your wedding day with personalized décor that's all about you!

It truly is exciting to see a wedding day come together, and Personalized Aisle Runners are one way to take your ceremony from ordinary to extraordinary. Thanks for watching and cheers to many years of happiness!

IDEAS: Madlibs Wedding Advice Serves as a Creative Guestbook!

por | | 0 comments

Retumbld from Geek Wedding's Tumblr.

If you and your partner are geeks about anything, there is usually a way to incorporate that side of your selves into your wedding (or funeral or any other ceremony!).  Music snobs (like me) will be very careful about the selection of music used during the ceremony, and after.  They will often use albums to identify tables or give away CDs as favours.  i love foodies too, because they will (obviously) incorporate something delicious into the menu or hors d'oeuvres, for example.

The point is, don't settle for less, and reflect who YOU are.  Each aspect of your special day should, and CAN show a little bit of yourselves!

Please contact A NON-DENOMINATIONAL CEREMONY : Certified Celebrant and ordained officiant for your indie wedding, DIY wedding, offbeat, anti-wedding, geek wedding, non-religious wedding, Asian wedding, destination, secular, multicultural, interfaith, surprise, civil, simple, traditional or spiritual ceremony.

Our Wedding By the Numbers

por | | 0 comments

I would consider my wedding to be a "hometown" wedding. We're getting married in the same town I grew up in, in the same Catholic church I went to for 18 years, and by the same priest who did my first communion, first confession, and confirmation. But, I keep wondering: could my wedding be considered a "destination wedding"?

Both of our families are big, big extended families, and on both sides, *everyone* is invited to a wedding. So we invited what seemed like everyone: 325 people with 140 invitations. But, the vast majority of our families are not in Texas: they're in Louisiana, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and England. Only a whopping 37 people invited actually live in the Houston area. So, we're expecting only around 120 people to attend. If only 11% of the people invited live in the area, does that make it a destination wedding?

Let's check out our acceptance rates. These are rough estimates because we haven't gotten all of our RSVPs back yet. I broke it out by how much our guests would have to spend to come to our wedding: whether they have to buy a plane ticket, and whether they have to get a hotel room.

Local guests (no flight, no hotel room):
29 out of 37: 78%

Guests within a four-hour drive (no flight, need hotel room). Because we're in Houston, this covers most of Texas and Louisiana!
57 out of 104: 55%

Guests in far-away states (need flight and hotel room)
36 out of 131: 27%

International guests (need expensive flight and hotel room)
0 out of 53: 0%

Overall:
38% acceptance

You can see that as the amount it costs to come to our wedding goes up, the acceptance rate goes down - which is to be expected. If you're planning your own wedding, I think your actual percentages might depend on how affluent your family is (or how many people have lost their jobs in this economy!). Our percentages also depended on who was in each "location group": close family, extended family we haven't seen in years, family friends, personal friends, and co-workers.

Most of the "average" acceptance rates online say 70 - 85% of your local guests will attend the wedding, and 40 - 60% of your out-of-town guests will attend. Our guests who don't need a plane ticket fall within those numbers. But, as soon as your guests need to get on a plane to come to our wedding, you might expect even less than that to attend.

ONE OF MY FAVOURITE WEDDING VENUES CRATHORNE HOTEL IS HOTEL OF THE YEAR

One of my favourite wedding venues in north Yorkshire has been named one of the best in Britain.

Crathorne Hall Hotel near Yarm has been awarded Hand Picked Hotels’ Hotel of the Year 2009.

Hand Picked Hotels, a collection of 17 country house hotels located across the UK, holds an annual ceremony with Hotel of the Year the most prestigious of three awards selected by chairman and chief executive, Julia Hands.

Other awards include Consistent Hotel of the Year, which was won by Crathorne Hall Hotel in 2008, and Most Improved Hotel of the Year.

Saltburn-born Mark Clayton has been general manager of Crathorne Hall since June 2008.

“It is a great honour to win this award and a real confidence boost and motivator for all the team here.

“I am hugely proud of the team and the level of commitment, service quality and standards they naturally deliver and attain.

“I’m passionate about this area and I’m passionate about the hotel so I am delighted that Crathorne Hall has been recognised as one of the best.”

Crathorne Hall Hotel was built in 1905 and has been part of the Hand Picked Hotels collection for nine years. It has been named among the country’s top 200 hotels for eight years, holding the prestigious accolade of four Red Stars since 2002.

Crathorne Hall, previously owned by the Dugdale family until 1977, has played host to HM The Queen Mother and Sir Winston Churchill when it was a private country home.

I've covered many, many weddings at Crathorne Hall over the year and it really is a distinct and beautiful country retreat with great staff attending to your every need, fantrastic food and a brilliant location on the outskirts of Yarm and close to the A19.

ELEMENTS: Laughs are GOOD! - Using Humor in Your Ceremony

ELEMENTS: Laughs are GOOD! - Using Humor in Your Ceremony
CONGRATULATIONS: Ste. and Jar.!  Married at Tustin Hills Racquet Club in Santa Ana, CA on 16 May 2010.  They first met at a stand-up comedy show...and since they love to laugh, why shouldn't they add a few laughs to one of the most important days of their life together?

Photo by AARON HUNIU PHOTOGRAPHY.  Uploaded from Flickr by dj venus.

One way you can make an occasion your very own is to project your personality/ies through each element of the wedding: from the colours, the venue, the menu and especially the ceremony.  The following excerpts are actual examples taken from the ceremony:
"Seven months ago, S.J., Ste. and Jar.'s son, was born.  Ever since, he has been their dear little monkey..."

"...may you both enjoy a long life of happiness together, with S...and may you always be like a family of deer crossing a prairie in the sunshine."
You don't have to settle for the usual, less-than-memorable ceremony.  Humour does not detract from the seriousness of the commitment being made, nor does it make light of the person or persons being honoured.  Your ceremony can, and should be, FUN, if you want it to be!  For more information, please contact A NON-DENOMINATIONAL CEREMONY.

Title: Syd Barrett - Baby Lemonade

Another brand new video, this time of Syd Barrett's 'Baby Lemonade' from his second and final solo album, 'Barrett'. 'Baby Lemonade' was written and recorded by Syd Barrett in 1970 and is the opening track on 'Barrett'. Dave Gilmour and along with Richard Wright produced the album, as well as performing guitar, bass, organ and piano on the album. The album takes a different direction away from the erratic style of 'The Madcap Laughs', with 'Barrett' adapting a more commercial sound, due to the influence of Gilmour and Wright. While 'Barrett' is a much more tighter and focused album, it still contains elements of Syd's bizarre nature.

The recording took less time to produce than 'The Madcap Laughs', and the final album was released in November 1970. Unfortunately, the album sparked no interest and failed to chart. Between 1971 and 1974, Syd Barrett attempted several music projects, including a band in 1972 called 'Stars'. The band was short-lived after only three live performances. In 1974, Syd Barrett recorded for the last time, recording only a few instrumentals before walking away from music forever.

Most of the images used in this video were photographed by Mick Rock in 1970.

I do not own the copyright for the audio or vision. This is a fan edit done under the 'fair use' provision laws.

Coming Soon: Syd Barrett's 'Opel'

Title: Laughter Amongst the generations

Sexy Model gives Quotes Vivian Kellie's Quote of the day today's Quote is from Henery David Thoreau Every generation laughs at the old fashions but religiously follows the new Henry Daid Thoreau

Henry David Thoreau (born David Henry Thoreau; July 12, 1817 May 6, 1862)[1] was an American author, poet, naturalist, tax resister, development critic, surveyor, historian, philosopher, and leading transcendentalist. He is best known for his book Walden, a reflection upon simple living in natural surroundings, and his essay, Civil Disobedience, an argument for individual resistance to civil government in moral opposition to an unjust state.
Thoreau's books, articles, essays, journals, and poetry total over 20 volumes. Among his lasting contributions were his writings on natural history and philosophy, where he anticipated the methods and findings of ecology and environmental history, two sources of modern day environmentalism. His literary style interweaves close natural observation, personal experience, pointed rhetoric, symbolic meanings, and historical lore; while displaying a poetic sensibility, philosophical austerity, and "Yankee" love of practical detail.[2] He was also deeply interested in the idea of survival in the face of hostile elements, historical change, and natural decay; at the same time imploring one to abandon waste and illusion in order to discover life's true essential needs.[2]
He was a lifelong abolitionist, delivering lectures that attacked the Fugitive Slave Law while praising the writings of Wendell Phillips and defending abolitionist John Brown. Thoreau's philosophy of civil disobedience influenced the political thoughts and actions of such later figures as Leo Tolstoy, Mahatma Gandhi, and Martin Luther King, Jr.
Thoreau is sometimes cited as an individualist anarchist.[3] Though Civil Disobedience calls for improving rather than abolishing government "I ask for, not at once no government, but at once a better government"[4] the direction of this improvement aims at anarchism: "'That government is best which governs not at all;' and when men are prepared for it, that will be the kind of government which they will have."[4]

Title: GUESS Jeans - Behind the Scenes - Spring / Summer 2010 Photoshoot

An American Classic
Introducing the GUESS Spring 2010 Campaign

For Spring/Summer 2010, GUESS unveils a denim focused campaign that intertwines GUESS rich denim heritage and the raw sensuality that has characterized the brand for the past few decades. The images, shot against a backdrop reminiscent of the old west at the Melody / Veluzat Ranch, Placerita Canyon and Santa Clarita Valley in California, sets the stage for this American classic tale. The denim pieces are mixed with nudes, ditsy floral prints and western-inspired plaids, which pop against the natural earth tones and vivid blues and greens of nature, telling a story that interlocks the GUESS name with American history.
Tribal influences can be drawn from the earth tones of the collection, as well as the uninhibited poses of the models. Loose draped tunics, western and prairie inspired blouses and fringe detailing compliments the womens collection, while vintage paisley prints and rugged denim shirts are paired with the mens denim. Although a majority of the images are tonal, pops of bright blues and burnt oranges bring to mind a luxurious destination far from the everyday life.
Seductive shots of Candace Boucher, seen in the GUESS fall 2009 campaign, Vanessa Hessler, Jacey Elthalion and Bruno Santos, a former GUESS model, are great canvas for the clothing. The natural environment, bohemian / western inspired clothing and the spirit of peace seen throughout the story, are captured by renowned photographer Raphael Mazzucco.
Under the direction of GUESS?, Inc. OPINION: Officiants, Photographers and Other Vendors Need to Communicate!

por | | 0 comments

My brother sent me an email the other day:
Hi~!
How goes?
So the last couple weddings I went to, this happened (pics attached)...This is my view of the ceremony...  "WedB" is the kiss...  Does this happen a lot?

Thanks,
~  K

The email made me think about the dozens of postings i have seen online and on Twitter, written by photogs who all passive-aggressively exclaim something similar to: "Hey, minister/reverend/officiant/clergyperson!  You should've gotten out of the way when the couple kissed at the end of the ceremony!" [BTW WedB is this one --->  ]

Was a shot ruined because the officiant was standing in between a kissing couple?  Possibly.  Undoubtedly, however, the guests attending a ceremony will be disappointed if their view is blocked by a less-thoughtful photog, videog, or anyone, really...

And so, dear Event Professional, on behalf of most confident, experienced and well-adjusted officiants, I encourage you to approach whoever is leading the ceremony you are working or documenting, and discuss where you would like for us to stand at which point in the ceremony...because we want you to capture the ceremony as much as you want to!  And tell us where you plan to be, as well.

Yes, this officiant WILL move out of the way for photographers... [but only if the photographer returns the kindness.  :)  Just kidding.]  Let's work together to create and record unforgettable, positive memories for our clients!  Thank you very much.
