What a fantastic ceremony it was, blending the cultures and backgrounds of these two young scientists! Before the wedding, the couple and their witnesses signed the marriage contract (Ketubah). Under a chuppah [see above], Robin and Matt exchanged personal vows, as well as traditional wedding vows. To make sure the ceremony represented both their backgrounds, they incorporated several readings from the Bible, and the groom's uncle gave a Jewish prayer and blessing as the couple shared wine from a Kiddush cup.
Allison from the Mission Inn took care of all of our needs. Day-of coordination by Monika and Donna of YOUR DAY 2 REMEMBER. Chuppah provided by HAPPY CHUPPAH. Photography by DEE DEE DALLAS of D2 and DJ services by Von.

Today the California Supreme Court granted review in the legal challenges to Proposition 8, which passed by a narrow margin of 52 percent on November 4. In an order issued today, the Court agreed to hear the case and set an expedited briefing schedule. The Court also denied an immediate stay. On November 5, 2008, the National Center for Lesbian Rights, the American Civil Liberties Union, and Lambda Legal filed a lawsuit challenging the validity of Proposition 8 in the California Supreme Court on behalf of six couples and Equality California. The City of San Francisco, joined by the City of Los Angeles, the County of Los Angeles, and Santa Clara County, filed a similar challenge, as did a private attorney in Los Angeles. The lawsuits allege that, on its face, Proposition 8 is an improper revision rather than an amendment of the California Constitution because, in its very title, which was Eliminates the right to marry for same-sex couples, the initiative eliminated an existing right only for a targeted minority. If permitted to stand, Proposition 8 would be the first time an initiative has successfully been used to change the California Constitution to take way an existing right only for a particular group. Such a change would defeat the very purpose of a constitution and fundamentally alter the role of the courts in protecting minority rights. According to the California Constitution, such a serious revision of our state Constitution cannot be enacted through a simple majority vote, but must first be approved by two-thirds of the Legislature. Since the three lawsuits submitted on November 5, three other lawsuits challenging Proposition 8 have been filed. In a petition filed on November 14, 2008, leading African American, Latino, and Asian American groups argued that Proposition 8 threatens the equal protection rights of all Californians. On November 17, 2008, the California Council of Churches and other religious leaders and faith organizations representing millions of members statewide, also filed a petition asserting that Proposition 8 poses a severe threat to the guarantee of equal protection for all, and was not enacted through the constitutionally required process for such a dramatic change to the California Constitution. On the same day, prominent California womens rights organizations filed a petition asking the Court to invalidate Proposition 8 because of its potentially disastrous implications for women and other groups that face discrimination. In May of 2008, the California Supreme Court held that barring same-sex couples from marriage violates the equal protection clause of the California Constitution and violates the fundamental right to marry. Proposition 8 would completely eliminate the right to marry only for same-sex couples. No other initiative has ever successfully changed the California Constitution to take away a right only from a targeted minority group. Over the past 100 years, the California Supreme Court has heard nine cases challenging either legislative enactments or initiatives as invalid revisions of the California Constitution. In three of those cases, the Court invalidated those measures.
You can get complete information regarding the actual case itself from the California courts website.

Title: Fox News Anti-Immigrant Spin on DREAM Act and California Victory for Immigrant Equality?
135+ MORE examples of Fox News Bias at http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=A3BD2524FE99BD4D
When Fox News' supposedly "straight news" program "Special Report" broadcast a story last week on the DREAM Act currently before the US Congress, "Special Report" spun the DREAM Act as a "nightmare," misreported to whom the DREAM Act applies, and, worst of all, reported on the appeal of last week's 7-0 California Supreme Court decision in favor of immigrant equality without ever reporting the unanimous decision for immigrants' rights itself, as I show in this video.
The clips of Bret Baier and the Fox News report from Mike Emanuel I used come from a segment broadcast on the program "Special Report with Bret Baier" November 16, 2010 (which I have not been able to find online)

I've been uipdating a lot of my website pages with new real-life weddings and adding new images to a lot of the original posts from the past 12 months.
More and more prospective brides wish to see as many photographs as possible from a wedding, so having 20 or so images on display from each wedding on this BLOG seems a good way to display the kind of photographs I produce from my great weddings!
I try to vary the images too from the website wedding to the BLOG version of the wedding. My wedding BLOG (online diary, the one you are reading now...) has many more up to date completed weddings than the website - and I try to post a sneak peak of every wedding the following Wednesday.
However, I still have about five wedding to post, so now that the website and BLOG updates are slowing down, I will endeavor to upload the 'missing' weddings!
Enjoy the additional photographs from Catherine's great wedding at Crathorne Hall!

Title: Kurt and Carrie Beach Wedding - North Captiva
http://northcaptiva.com
Carrie and Kurt were married in May 2010 on the beach just outside 163-Pelican Pointe at the North Captiva Island Club Resort. It was an intement setting with just the 2 of them along with the Minister and his wife. The water behind them was the Gulf of Mexico where it meets Captiva Pass. Afterwards it was a romantic golf cart limo ride to the Boat House Restaurant for a beautiful dinner prepared by Chef David and served by Andrew. Congratulations Carrie and Kurt. Call 239-283-3630 to book your southwest Florida beach wedding in the tropical paradise we call North Captiva Island Club.
American society has so few ties to custom and ritual in this day and age. That's why it's so interesting to see how sports and athleticism is the one area where tradition is not only expected, but it is also honoured and perpetuated.
An article from the Los Angeles Times wrote about the Beef Bowl, a five decades-long tradition of serving prime rib dinners in a fine dining setting to players of both teams competing in the Rose Bowl (on separate days, of course!). The two teams are invited in to a Los Angeles establishment to communally feast on a prime rib dinner with Yorkshire pudding, potatoes, salad etc. Inevitably, the event turns into a eating competition each year. (Here's a tip for you wagerers: supposedly, the team with the most amount of meat consumed is statistically significantly shown to become the winner of the Rose Bowl game...)
[PLEASE NOTE: For the record, i have been a vegetarian for over 20 years, and do not personally approve of such overt displays of excess when it comes to something like food and hunger...but i DO enjoy tradition and so i wanted to share this story with you!]
Throw your assumptions about what a wedding ceremony should be like right out the window. What do you want to say to one another on this most important day?
Write your own vows and say exactly how you feel.
Quote your favorite poet on the subject of love, or include a verse from a meaningful song for the two of you.
Ask family members to read or play music during the ceremony.
Light a special candle to commemorate loved ones who have passed away.
Use your favorite music for the processional instead of classical standards.
When you remember that there really are no rules to follow when planning your own untraditional wedding, the possibilities for creativity are truly endless.
