Wedding reviews are very important to a bride when she is researching for a wedding photographer.
Reviews give a one-to-one impression of the hard work and personality and skills needed to be a top-class professional creative wedding photographer.
That's why I put such value on wedding reviews by brides and grooms - and often Mum's and dad's too, as often they pay towards the cost of the day's celebrations, sometimes in their entirety!
This week, Leila kindly wrote to me with a review of her and Lewis' summer Humanist wedding at Sunderland Glass Centre, one of the newer, more distinctive wedding venues in north east England.
It was an exciting day for more than a couple of reasons, it was my first Humanist wedding, indeed it was my first wedding photography commission at Sunderland Glass Centre and the modern, post-industrial setting made for some lovely photographs.
It being summer of course we had the weather too .... dark dramatic skies, heavy rainfall, skittish winds playing up and down the River Wear .... but what a great day Leila and Lewis had, and I had a lovely time with all their friends and relatives capturing the essence and fun of their great wedding day!
Leila writes: When we were seeking a wedding photographer, I searched literally dozens of photographers websites, and I must admit that Dirks grabbed me instantly. His photos stood out a mile, and those that came close were from photographers charging twice as much.
I loved the relaxed, natural, yet at the same time very precise feel of the photography. Relaxed doesnt mean sloppy, but rather effectively and skilfully capturing the atmosphere of the wedding day, the exact moment people gasp or smile.
Once we had signed up, it was a bonus to have the pre-wedding photo shoot. This gave us a chance to get used to being photographed and to tell Dirk about what we wanted.
Our wedding was slightly unusual in some ways but Dirk was enthusiastic about doing something different. Our venue had an industrial feel and the weather on the day was dramatic and changeable, but rather than spoiling the day this added to it as Dirk used the setting to create lovely, unique images.
On the day we were married facing inwards in front of large glass windows so the lighting was a real challenge, but Dirk captured the ceremony fantastically and a year on the photos evoke the reality brilliantly.
During the day, Dirk blended in easily with the guests and was charming and polite with everyone. Some group shots were taken but these were arranged quickly and efficiently and were in keeping with the informal style.
After the wedding day, we were able to enjoy looking at our photos on honeymoon, just 4 days after the wedding. Everyone who has seen them has commented on how much they love the photography. We have found Dirk to be very professional and provide excellent service throughout.
We havent yet committed to a wedding album, but the main thing is that we have a set of fantastic photos that capture our wonderful day, and that we can enjoy forever....."
Many thanks indeed to a great couple and their family and friends - it was an absolute pleasure to be part of your day at Sunderland Glass Centre.

This Flushmount Bridal Album was created by Abella Studios' designer for Jessica & Paul, whose Wedding Ceremony was held at Saint Theresa of Avila, Summit, NJ and the Reception at the Florentine Gardens, River Vale, NJ.
Here is what Jess & Paul had to say about Abella Studios...
Dear Alex, Mark, Ryan & Abella staff,
I hope that you are well & are having a great start to the New Year! I wanted to thank you for the great job you did on our photography & videography for our wedding last year (Memorial Day 09)!
Carlos & Mark Thank you so much for the amazing job on our montage/recap video! Including the wrap-up video at the end of the reception really helped to tie everything together. Not only was it great that people who missed our ceremony were able to see a few moments from our ceremony/vows, but it also helped people who were there to better hear some of the vows that we wrote for each other. Both women & men teared up during the final wrap-up & we received so many compliments on the excellent work that you did. The quality of the work you did is reflected in the fact that one of our close friends has recently booked your team for her upcoming 2010 wedding (Tara & Jose).
Alex Thank you so much for the amazing job you did on our pictures from the wedding! The timing of your shots was impeccable particularly the one of our groomsman George doing a straddle jump over Paul while he was doing a one-armed push-up - & the pictures you took during one of our attendants break-dancing sessions. We are so grateful to you for capturing all of the important & exciting moments so that we can remember the great times we had on our wedding day.
Ryan Thank you so much for your guidance & advice throughout the process & for the amazing job you did on our engagement pictures in 08 at the Castle at Skylands Manor.
Angelica Thank you so much for the editing job/artistic work you did in working with us to create our wedding album. We are so excited to pick up the album in February!
We have sent out link to the videos & the pictures to all of our wedding guests & to our vendors, so I hope that you receive even more referrals & contacts from our event. Thanks again for all that you did for us we are excited to now begin working on the full video & selecting our photo enlargements!
My first wedding dress alterations fitting is coming up, so I needed to find all the undergarments for under the dress. Guys, you might want to skip this post!
Tip: Always take everything you'll be wearing on your wedding day to every alterations fitting (including undergarments and shoes), so that the fit is perfect and there are no surprises.

Spanx, of course! I love Spanx for smoothing everything out. I already have this style, so I'm set.
I decided on a simple strapless bustier (also called a longline bra), to give support up top and control my curves. I tried looking around at department stores and Victoria's Secret. They only had one or two to try, and none fit me well or felt like I could wear it all day.
I finally went to Petticoat Fair in Austin on a friend's recommendation. Best wedding decision ever! This small lingerie shop is leaps and bounds better than department stores or Victoria's Secret. You get a personal saleswoman for the entire time you're there to size you correctly, find what you're looking for, and help decide which bra has the best fit.
I absolutely recommend going to a smaller, non-chain lingerie shop when you're shopping for your wedding. The saleswoman pulled out SIX bustiers she thought would look good and helped put them on me. We finally selected this one and I absolutely love it. It fits PERFECTLY!
Tip: Take your wedding dress with you when shopping for undergarments. It sounds odd, but my saleswoman specifically asked me if I had it with me, so we could check if the bra showed through the dress.

Access Denied details the impact of the Global Gag Rule on reproductive health programs in Zambia, one of the poorest countries in Africa. At a time when one in five adults is infected with HIV and nearly 70 percent of the population is under the age of 24, the gag rule has deprived Zambia's primary family planning agency of critical U.S. assistance.

At long last, a save the date with a lovebird theme. This is a demure design with a white background and gray graphics (though you can change that). Two birds sit on a branch.
One of my favourite wedding venues in north Yorkshire has been named one of the best in Britain.
Crathorne Hall Hotel near Yarm has been awarded Hand Picked Hotels Hotel of the Year 2009.
Hand Picked Hotels, a collection of 17 country house hotels located across the UK, holds an annual ceremony with Hotel of the Year the most prestigious of three awards selected by chairman and chief executive, Julia Hands.
Other awards include Consistent Hotel of the Year, which was won by Crathorne Hall Hotel in 2008, and Most Improved Hotel of the Year.
Saltburn-born Mark Clayton has been general manager of Crathorne Hall since June 2008.
It is a great honour to win this award and a real confidence boost and motivator for all the team here.
I am hugely proud of the team and the level of commitment, service quality and standards they naturally deliver and attain.
Im passionate about this area and Im passionate about the hotel so I am delighted that Crathorne Hall has been recognised as one of the best.
Crathorne Hall Hotel was built in 1905 and has been part of the Hand Picked Hotels collection for nine years. It has been named among the countrys top 200 hotels for eight years, holding the prestigious accolade of four Red Stars since 2002.
Crathorne Hall, previously owned by the Dugdale family until 1977, has played host to HM The Queen Mother and Sir Winston Churchill when it was a private country home.
I've covered many, many weddings at Crathorne Hall over the year and it really is a distinct and beautiful country retreat with great staff attending to your every need, fantrastic food and a brilliant location on the outskirts of Yarm and close to the A19.

Title: GUESS Jeans - Behind the Scenes - Spring / Summer 2010 Photoshoot
An American Classic
Introducing the GUESS Spring 2010 Campaign
For Spring/Summer 2010, GUESS unveils a denim focused campaign that intertwines GUESS rich denim heritage and the raw sensuality that has characterized the brand for the past few decades. The images, shot against a backdrop reminiscent of the old west at the Melody / Veluzat Ranch, Placerita Canyon and Santa Clarita Valley in California, sets the stage for this American classic tale. The denim pieces are mixed with nudes, ditsy floral prints and western-inspired plaids, which pop against the natural earth tones and vivid blues and greens of nature, telling a story that interlocks the GUESS name with American history.
Tribal influences can be drawn from the earth tones of the collection, as well as the uninhibited poses of the models. Loose draped tunics, western and prairie inspired blouses and fringe detailing compliments the womens collection, while vintage paisley prints and rugged denim shirts are paired with the mens denim. Although a majority of the images are tonal, pops of bright blues and burnt oranges bring to mind a luxurious destination far from the everyday life.
Seductive shots of Candace Boucher, seen in the GUESS fall 2009 campaign, Vanessa Hessler, Jacey Elthalion and Bruno Santos, a former GUESS model, are great canvas for the clothing. The natural environment, bohemian / western inspired clothing and the spirit of peace seen throughout the story, are captured by renowned photographer Raphael Mazzucco.
Under the direction of GUESS?, Inc. Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Paul Marciano, and photographer Raphael Mazzucco, the GUESS spring/summer 2010 campaign manages to re-invent the brand and position it as a leader in the denim and contemporary marketplace. At GUESS, we strive to develop and put out a collection that allows our customer and potential customer to escape from their everyday life and into a world of discovery, says Paul Marciano. Over the years, GUESS has become synonymous with America, denim and fashion. The Spring 2010 collection is a perfect reflection of everything GUESS stands for.
Known for unforgettable campaigns and trend-setting clothing and accessories, GUESS offers timeless fits of denim jackets, vintage inspired tee shirts, jeans, western-inspired button downs button, and flirty cap-sleeve peasant blouses.
Look for these GUESS images in upcoming issues of top fashion and lifestyle magazines, at www.GUESS.com, in GUESS retail stores, outdoor media, and on collateral materials.
For the tech-ishly inclined reception, bachelor/ette party, etc. etc...introducing...THE GAME SQUAD.
So, i was driving up the 5 freeway in South County today, and i drove up and passed this monstrous truck pulling a huge winnebago-ish trailer. It was decorated as if it was a giant Best Buy advertisement for video games...and if you know me, you know how much i loathe commercials, especially commercials on wheels. But NO! It turns out Game Squad is a private company, where they bring what looks like this ginormous LAN party to you! Check out their website, and in the meantime, i'm going to try and contact them and bring more details, such as...
How much does it cost? For what period of time?
What kind of gear are they running? Is it all battery powered?
What kind of network? i'd love to take a peek inside the inner workings...
They look like mostly RPG, but they must have driving and first person shooter games, and stuff like Rockband...?
Who's behind this awesome idea?
And thus i wish they had more info on their site. And i wish they had photos of, um, adults playing in the trailer...although, i suppose most of us already have a similar setup in our own homes? And my last wish was that they had better SEO...it was kinda hard finding them online.
What a cool idea. Why didn't they have this when WE got married, 15 years ago!!??

Title: world of warcraft (the wedding)
First of all,'WE LIVE TOGETHER IN REAL LIFE AND THIS IS NOT A REAL WEDDING, WE DID THIS FOR FUN'. I met someone playing world of warcraft that changed my life, so i moved to be with her and the best we could do at the time was this, also it was alot of fun for us and guild members involved. So please dont think we are computer geeks, internet lovers or anything of the sort. We are just 2 people that found eachother through a way that is well known to most people in this generation, the internet, and we are meant to be together...So I would just like to say, video games such as "world of warcraft" do have happy stories like ours. Thank you Blizzard entertainment for making this happen, without picking up a game one day and getting on the net, I would never have found the person whome I want to spend the rest of my life with...
One extra thing for anybody who reads this description as of the 22/11/07. We just had a baby daughter. I'M A DAD!!! :D ,
(11-7-08)= One last thing for people who leave bad comments, obviously they havent read this description and without the want of anger or hatred for what they say, I would just like to thank them, because if you don't realise, bad comments also add comments and views to my video and give it a better rating on here, so thanks for your stupidity to those who like to put shit on others just for your own amusement, you did me a favour. Cheers!
Update 13-Jan-2010.....And for those of you that want to know if we play Warcraft anymore, no we don't, we did for a couple of years but we lost interest a long time ago now. We all still use computers a lot as it is the way the world is going, but online gaming is something we no longer find interesting, it is much more fun to enjoy life for what it is than for what it isn't.
Although, I still give credit for online gaming as without it I would not have the life and family I have now.

Title: She walks in Beauty by Lord Byron
SHE walks in beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies; And all that 's best of dark and bright Meet in her aspect and her eyes: Thus mellow'd to that tender light Which heaven to gaudy day denies. One shade the more, one ray the less, Had half impair'd the nameless grace Which waves in every raven tress, Or softly lightens o'er her face; Where thoughts serenely sweet express How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek, and o'er that brow, So soft, so calm, yet eloquent, The smiles that win, the tints that glow, But tell of days in goodness spent, A mind at peace with all below, A heart whose love is innocent!
