Custom Fabric Aisle Runner for Christine

por | | 0 comments

No matter how you say it, it's the same in any language!   Christine had contacted me for a custom fabric aisle runner that would share the theme from their wedding.  They were doing a collage of "LOVE" using the different languages from their heritage.  What a wonderful idea!  We  added non skid backing to keep it in place and here is the beautiful backdrop for their wedding ceremony!

I claim that it is the prettiest fridge in the city.

Small magnets, medium magnets, large magnets, extra large magnets, custom cut magnets.

I did stop adding magnets to the fridge before I added the heart shaped and circular magnets to my product line.

Title: Gary Null is the Kent Hovind of Alternative Medicine

Thanks to all who mirrored.

Gary Null is the "Grandaddy of All Quacks". He was recently in the news, and I decided to do a little digging on his education, qualifications, and honors. What I learned was... well... not that surprising for a man that sells magnetic bras and chi-enhancing jock straps.

Anyone who thinks Gary is a real contributor to the field of nutrition would do well to read his one 1982 article on garlic, or his Penthouse publications.

I also find it highly suspect that he is both diagnosing the world's ills, and also crassly selling the "cures" on his website.

TESTIMONIAL FROM SHELLEY AND STEPHENS FINE CHRISTMAS WEDDING AT LANGLEY CASTLE NEAR HEXHAM NORTHUMBERLAND, ENGLAND

TESTIMONIAL FROM SHELLEY AND STEPHENS FINE CHRISTMAS WEDDING AT LANGLEY CASTLE NEAR HEXHAM NORTHUMBERLAND, ENGLAND
Shelley has decided to embarrass me by penning the world's longest wedding testimonial, but as she says, it was a long tale, and takes some telling!!

Firstly, take my advice ... STOP LOOKING FOR A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER, NOW!!!

You have found him.

If you are reading this on Dirk's BLOG or you are on his website you can relax.

You have found your wedding photographer, you can stop stressing - You will not find a better photographer, or more natural and breathtaking photographs so just book Dirk and concentrate on all the other exciting plans for your dream wedding.
Stephen and I were never going to be conventional. We had both waited until our 40's to get married and never thought we would ever find love like this.

We met through martial arts. He was my instructor. I thought he was stern and grumpy. We often fight each other so you can imagine the "courting" was a bit different.
.. He proposed to me at The Trevi Fountain in Rome and the planning began. He always told me that whatever the cost, I could be a princess in my castle and have the complete fairy tale!

We wanted a Christmas wedding in castle, we wanted snow, log fires, Christmas trees and some fighting on the roof with Samurai swords (no, really!).
We chose Langley Castle near Hexham. It was perfect, absolutely perfect. Then started my search for a photographer. I had probably 6 or so different photographers come to our house where we poured over lovely albums, watched slide shows, listened to how the photographer would work and what the photographer would do. I found this daunting and intimidating. You know it is so important to capture that day, the best day of your life and it is such a huge decision. On recommendation we chose a photographer, despite my better judgement and things progressed. I sent this guy a cheque as a deposit. I then never heard from him again. Fortunately I cancelled the cheque and have since learned that he has swindled lots of couples out of their money and has not produced their wedding photographs for them. I was so relieved we didn't get any further with him and so my search started again!!! I came across a photograph in a north east wedding magazine, Belle Bridal, which showed a bride and her groom in a church yard with all her family around her. A strong gust of wind had taken her veil up and around her and was lifted around her family who were all laughing and holding onto their hats! I loved it.

The photographer was Dirk.
This was a Sunday and was in fact Fathers Day. I considered not ringing that day but did anyway. I left a message on an answerphone. Stephen and I then went shopping at B & Q for a light fitting (Sunday / Father's day - I know....). My mobile rang and Dirk spoke to me in the lighting section..... I knew after the first two sentences that he was the photographer we would use. First impressions mean a great deal. He was funny, reassuring, charming and cheeky! (in a good way) Then came the meeting at our house. This was the first time a photographer had asked us how we wanted the pictures to look, what we expected from him, how we wanted him to work and what we wanted him to produce. None of the others had asked that!

This was a photographer who listened and was interested. One of the others had even suggested we change the time of our meal to ensure she could get her shots!
He was genuinely interested, and I think a little bit excited that we were to be unconventional and there would be a martial arts influence with some of the North East's top Black Belts present! I think the sword thing must have sounded a bit mad as well :) It took no time or discussion for Stephen and I to agree and Dirk was booked. We had the most beautiful pre-wedding photographs done at Roker beach in Sunderland. It was so difficult to choose from those they were all stunning and we felt very reassured that we were going to get some tremendous photographs at our wedding. Dirk kept in close contact throughout and this settled me a great deal. Nothing was too much trouble. The evening before I stayed at Close House Hotel in Wylam with my family. During the evening it started to snow. I could hardly contain my excitement and texted Dirk a couple of times as it was too much to hope for, my castle with snow!! Dirk came the next morning amidst crisp white snow and took some photo's at Close House before we set off for the Castle. There was just enough snow! It looked fantastic and the photo's I have are beautiful! Really the day went so quickly and most of the time I did not even know Dirk was there. We did not want too many posed photographs and he has managed to capture natural images of everyone without (seemingly) any effort.

He coped so well with the madness that was my room full of bridesmaids just prior to the wedding and everyone loved him!

His manner was faultless, he was reassuring through out and was relentless! He stayed until really late, much later than I had thought and we have some of the most stunning photographs of Stephen and I outside of the castle in the dark with a full moon peeping from behind a cloud.
I cannot tell you how delighted I am with our album.

I love that it is actually a book with far more photographs in than a conventional album.

I love that it is practicable and portable and won't end up under a bed or in the loft in years to come. I love that it tells a beautiful fairy tale, and I was absolutely a princess, with my claret and gold dress in my castle with my prince!

Each turn of the page still startles me with the easiness of it, the completely relaxed and fun moments are there for us. There is nothing that required any effort for us, Dirk had quite simply "nailed it"!!
Our day was full of laughter and this is very apparent from our album.

Dirk charmed everyone and I can only reflect on our B & Q conversation and say that "it does what it says on the tin"!! He promised an album that would truly capture the day, he promised that we need not worry about the photography and he promised the photographs would be perfect.
He did all of this and more. My testimonial may be a bit long but I could honestly write more. I will end how I started. Stop looking, he is it, you will not regret it I promise.(Oh and your mam and aunties might fancy him...) shell xx

INFO: Real Answers to Real Simple Questions

por | | 0 comments

Recently on Twitter, an article from the Real Simple magazine website was floating around. The topic was WHAT TO ASK YOUR WEDDING OFFICIANT. Usually, i dislike writing in the first person, but in this case, it is necessary...so here are my answers to the Real Simple :

1. Can you give us the ceremony we want?
YES, you MAY write your own vows, and i encourage you to design your own ceremony. i have an extensive collection of resources and research materials to assist you in the process. i have NO restrictions or requirements (with the exception of performing a wedding which would result in the harming of human beings or animals).

Do you want to "Get a feel for the officiant's manner, tone of voice, and spiritual nature"? Whenever possible i meet with all potential couples to see if we 'click'. If you are planning a ceremony from outside the area, a phone call and many emails usually does the trick.

2. What's your experience?
Easy answer: i have been performing weddings and other ceremonies for other people for the past three years. i average two to three a month, because this is not my full-time occupation. i am happy to supply you with as many references as you need!

3. Are you flexible?
Easier answer. YES, i travel. YES, i have a backup network of officiants in case of emergency.
i am very adaptable and open to any changes from the usual. In fact, anything deviating from the norm is encouraged! And, i can do backbends and touch my toes without bending my knees.

4. What are your credentials?
i am ordained to solemnize marriages in the state of California. i am also a certified Celebrant and i am a member of NAWO . i am familiar with California Family Code and completely qualified according to the requirements of the state of California, to perform your marriage ceremony and 'make it legal'.

5. How often will we meet?
As mentioned above, i meet with each couple for a no-obligation consultation to see if i am the right officiant for them. i am always available by phone, chat/AIM, sometimes via Twitter and ESPECIALLY by email. <--- Please note, this email link is spam-proofed; please change the [AT] to @. If schedule and geography permit, i sometimes meet with a couple one more time, to go over final details. i do run rehearsals. i perform pre-marital counseling but it is not a requirement. In fact, due to conflicts of interest, i do not tend to counsel couples who have hired me to marry them.

6. How much do you charge?
Fees vary, usually between $249 and $699 and INCLUDE the following: ALL travel and mileage; rehearsal; script writing; ceremony performance; filing of marriage license (less any fees to expedite shipping or processing); and a keepsake copy of the wedding ceremony text. A contract containing charges and services will be gone over in detail at the time of our meeting or phone call.

7.Will you be joining us at the reception?
Thank you, i would love to! :)

===
As the article says: "The officiant sets the tone for your wedding so do your homework to make sure it’s a ceremony you’ll love." More than anything, this is my absolute goal, to make sure you have YOUR Ceremony, YOUR Way. For more information, please contact me at A NON-DENOMINATIONAL CEREMONY.

VOW RENEWAL: Military theme at Calafia Bluff in San Clemente, CA

por | | 0 comments

CONGRATULATIONS: Megan and Shane!! VOW RENEWAL: Military theme at Calafia Bluff in San Clemente, CA
(And of course, also to their three lovely children, Shayna, Hunter and Travis...)
i had the honour and privilege to officiate the vow renewal ceremony for this special couple. The bride had wanted this ceremony to celebrate their marriage, which, today, is "better than ever" after ten and a half years. The husband, who is on active duty in the United States Marine Corps, wore his alpha blouse /uniform, which is entirely different from the usual dress blues. The ceremony took place high atop a bluff overlooking Calafia Beach, a part of San Clemente State Beach with a small group of family and friends in attendance. Title: U.S. Armed Forces Honor President Bush For His Service With An Award.

God bless the U.S. Military, the last hope for the world.

I have a love hate political relationship with President Bush. But on the matter of national defense and the war on terror, we do not differ.

Let me say just one thing about the Iraq war. The goals of the war and the exit strategy have never changed. The goal is and has always been to create a free and independent democracy in the Middle East so as to help spread peace throughout the region. The exit strategy is and has always been, they stand up and then we stand down. Nothing has ever changed except the will of the American people to see something of great difficulty through to the end.

Defense Leaders Laud Bush at Farewell Ceremony
By Donna Miles
American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Jan. 6, 2009 Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates and Navy Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, today praised President George W. Bush as a patriot who has championed the nation's men and women in uniform while standing up to terrorists who threaten the United States.
The defense leaders paid tribute to the president during an armed forces farewell ceremony at Fort Myer, Va.

Gates called Bush a visionary who recognized before becoming president the threat terrorists and other unconventional threats posed, and that the military was still structured to confront Cold War-era conventional threats.

But even more so, Gates said, Bush had the fortitude to confront terrorists head-on when they attacked the United States just months after he took office, as he propelled a historic transformation of the U.S. military.

The result is an American military that has become more agile, lethal and prepared to deal with the full spectrum of 21st century conflict, Gates said. He noted that the military has become a force dramatically more deployable and expeditionary than when he last served in government 15 years ago.

Gates cited just a few of the historic changes that have taken place under Bushs leadership:

-- The Army carried out its most significant restructuring in more than two generations, moving from a division-based to a modular, brigade-based force.

-- The Navys Fleet Response Plan nearly doubled the number of strike carrier groups that can be surged in the first weeks of a crisis.

-- Special operations forces have seen vast increases in budget, personnel, authorities and capabilities critical to the campaign against terrorism worldwide.

-- The number of unmanned aerial vehicles has grown some 40-fold to more than 6,000.

-- The military has undergone a genuine revolution in its ability to fuse intelligence and operations.

-- Cold War-era bases in Germany, South Korea and Japan have been modernized and sized to better reflect the security requirements of this century.

-- New authorities and programs enable the military to build the capacity of allies and partners in cooperation with civilian agencies and organizations.

Gates noted that in the midst of this transformation, Bush showed strength as he led the military through two major conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan and a broader struggle against terrorist networks around the globe.

He has not flinched when faced with difficult wartime decisions, including the momentous decision two years ago to send more troops into Iraq and revamp our strategy there, Gates said.

Mullen joined Gates in thanking Bush for leading the U.S. military at a critical time in the countrys history.

After this nation was attacked by a rising evil, the same evil which later murdered many others in places like London, Madrid, Islamabad and Mumbai, you quickly led us from the grip of fear to a serenity of purpose and unity of action, he said.

Mullen called that serenity well beyond our dreams on Sept. 12, [2001] when all thought further attack was not only likely, but gravely imminent.

He credited Bush for having the vision to establish a new national security strategy to reach Americas enemies overseas so they could not revisit U.S. soil.

We sent our forces to hills and caves, alongside tribesmen on horseback, to root them out and hunt them down, he said. We liberated Iraq from tyranny, now on the road to renewal. And we are shifting our focus to Afghanistan.

Through these operations, Mullen told Bush, we felt your unmatched confidence in us, which only made us better.

Title: US Tries to Match its Military Drive in Afghanistan with a Socio-economic Development Component

As Afghans wait for results from last Thursday's disputed presidential and provincial election, the Obama administration is pressing for non-military efforts that would strengthen the new government. The civilian campaign is aimed at providing social stability and economic opportunities for the Afghan people who appear to be losing faith in a government that has been increasingly challenged by the Taliban. VOA's Ravi Khanna reports the Special U.S. Representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan, Richard Holbrooke, has gathered a special team for the civilian drive.

Photostrip save the dates

por | | 0 comments

One of the fun ideas that floats around for wedding save the dates is:

A strip of photographs. It reminds couples of when they hopped into a photo booth and made faces at the camera- goofing around and having fun.

Often people will want to hold up signs with "save" "the" "date" for their photographs. Sometimes this works well, but sometimes, I recommend that the couple have to re-write the words so that they come through nice and clear.

There are a couple of magnet sizes that kind of work for this idea: 2x5.5 and 2x8 inches.

There is a card size that works even better with this idea though- 2.75x8 inches. There is enough room for a nice border around the photographs and some wording in a fun font.

Photostrip save the dates

Minimum order quantity for this card size: 75.

Click here to visit the information page for this card size.

This size is not available as a magnet.

Check out what this customer had to say about her order:

"Hi Angie. I received the save the dates a couple of days ago. They are perfect! Thanks for all of your help!"

Something I'm seeing more of: invitations for weddings, and other parties, that incorporate a playing card theme.

Playing Card Invitations

With a design that might remind you of a playing card, these invitations might work for couples getting married in a Casino, in Vegas, or who like to gamble, or for those fun pre-wedding parties.

The two featured invitations are both examples of how this can be done with a simple, cost effective design. Both are made of white card stock, and have rounded corners.

AMY AND FRASER'S GREAT WEDDING AT ELLINGHAM HALL NEAR ALNWICK IN NORTHUMBERLAND
Amy and Fraser met at university in Aberdeen and since then have travelled the world from their original family homes in Scotland and Northumberland.

Nowadays they live in Calgary in Canada, so organising a wedding from thousands of mles away was never going to be easy - but thanks to the internet and some great organisational skills - they did it - in style!

Amy had seen a wedding that I had photographed for Liz and Steve at Ellingham Hall, a beautiful exclusive use wedding venue in Northumberland last year on my BLOG and e-mailed to to ask some questions. Once I had done that she was determined, on the basis of my wedding blog and my website that she wanted me to be a small but important part of her wedding at Ellingham Hall!

Fraser and Amy visited Northumberland in September - and we met for the first time and got on really well, and I met with her mum too. We e-mailed each other a few more times, and last Saturday, finally was the date for the BIG day at Ellingham Hall.

It was a gray overcast day, drizzling rain and there was fog too on the roads as I made my way though Newcastle and then headed up the A1 past Alnwick, but once I was in the beautiful Ellingham Hall, all decked out with Christmas trees and decorations and open roaring fires, I was transported to a much nicer place!

Amy's mum came to greet me and before long I was watching and photographing all the decorations and detail pieces which come in so handy when I come to designing their wedding album - and Fraser appeard wearing his kilt but he was wandering about in his running shoes! Cool calm and collected!

Amy was tucked away on the third floor having her hair styled and all around the lovely old house, people were appearing in their wedding finery.

The service was short and sweet - with lots of laughs and immediately after the ceremony we headed straight outside as there was only about 10 minutes of daylight left and we knew we wanted to get a good group shot of everyone together.

After that was a relaxing hour or two with canapes and drinks before heading into the main hall, decked out with candles and decorations for our dinner and speeches before chilling out for a while in the reception room and the main lounge as the ceilidh band set up.

Then Fraser and Amy surprised us all by putting on their cowboy boots for their first dance and Fraser donned a wonderful stetson which made him look so handsome for their first dance!

The candles .. the music .. the ambiance and the fun stayed with me as I headed for a long drive down the A1 back home.

A great day for everyone!

I hope you enjoy a SNEAK PEAK of a few of the images from their great day. Once Amy and Fraser have returned from Paris and their visits to relatives over Christmas, I shall post more. For relatives and friends, Amy will send you an e-mail link to their private gallery so you can view all the images from their wedding at Ellingham Hall
