A Lily and Hydrangea Wedding Ceremony

por | | 0 comments

Surprisingly, the ceremony decor was one of the cheapest items in our budget. The church is already gorgeous, so it didn't need much. Plus, our wedding was the weekend after Easter, so the church was still full of white Easter lilies. The only thing we paid for was a few pew markers made from hydrangeas!

por | | 0 comments
Jess had contacted me for a custom aisle runner with a peacock design to incorporate with their wedding theme.  She wanted their initials with lush and colorful peacock feathers and I did a couple of design proposals for her with those elements.  We tweaked the design just a little bit and finally finished with this beautiful peacock aisle runner.

Bridal Portraits Should Not Look Like Yearbook Photos

por | | 0 comments

I have to admit, I was not pleased with my bridal portraits. My first reaction when I got the pictures back from the photographer was "Why do these remind me of my awkward yearbook pictures?!"

Exhibit A: The dreaded school portrait head tilt.
You remember this from middle school. The photographer says "Ok, now, angle your shoulders away with me, but turn your face towards me, and then tilt your head...more tilt, more tilt". All the while, you're thinking "Is this right? Are you sure this is going to look good?"

Bridal Portraits Should Not Look Like Yearbook Photos(school portrait from Lifetouch)

Exhibit B: Awkward pose with a prop.
Senior portraits all seem to have some sort of ladder, tree, or huge class year numbers to lean on. Is this supposed to make it look more natural than the head tilt?

Bridal Portraits Should Not Look Like Yearbook Photos(school portrait from Classic Camera Photography)

School portrait poses asides, I felt like the majority of the poses we did were completely unflattering to my specific body type and more importantly unflattering to MY DRESS.

Most of the shots were taken by the photographer kneeling on the ground and looking up at me, making me look, well let's just say "larger than life". As I was looking down at the camera, it also exposed a nice double chin effect. What bride doesn't want that in her pictures?

Bridal Portraits Should Not Look Like Yearbook Photos
The photographer was also a big fan of having me stand away from him, and then twisting my torso to face the camera or at something behind me. I'm pretty sure this is supposed to make you look thinner. But that doesn't take into account that my dress' boned bodice will not twist *with* my body; it will stubbornly stay faced away, pinching my skin and flattening out my under arm. The result is that my side looks like flab is spilling out over the dress and my arm looks like it doesn't understand the word "push-up". Fabulous.

Bridal Portraits Should Not Look Like Yearbook Photos
I did come out of the session with some good pictures. The photographer stood on a chair and shot down at me while I sat on the ground. There's no gorgeous backdrop, but these are the only pictures where I feel like I came off looking pretty and like myself. Look, no double chin!

The best picture of the day was a completely candid shot as we were walking to the car to leave.

Theme Inspiration: Family Trees

Genealogy is a long-running hobby of mine, so I knew I wanted to incorporate our family trees into elements of our wedding. Family trees and old family photos can show up pretty much anywhere in a wedding, and they are a great way to honor those married before you.

Title: Castle Crashers Music - Main Theme (Menu)

Uploaded cause the song pwns.

(I am not the creator of the song/game!)

Game Info:

What is Castle Crashers?
Castle Crashers is a 4 player beat-em-up adventure that can be played both online or offline. It includes light RPG elements such as levelling up and experience. Characters have different magical abilities and swappable weapons found along the way! :D

Can I play this game online/offline?
Yes! You can play both co-op and versus modes online multiplayer (or offline!).

When does the game release?
August 27th, 2008 on Xbox LIVE Arcade!

Is there a demo?
Yes, you can download it from Xbox LIVE Arcade for free on August 27th, 2008.

How many characters do I pick from?
Over 20 characters to unlock. Four characters to pick from initially. If you have an Alien Hominid HD achievement, you can also choose to start with the Alien in Castle Crashers as well!!

What were the team's inspirations?
Tom's main inspiration comes from Guardian Heroes, and anything Treasure has created. Dan's main inspiration comes from River City Ransom, or anything Technos Japan has created. Everyone on the team likes oldschool stuff and wants to keep the evolution of the old genres happening!

What happens when my character dies?
If you are all alone, you are booted back out to the map. You keep all of your experience points that you gained during that level.

If you are with friends, they will have a chance to revive you with CPR. If both of you die, you are both booted back out to the map and keep all your experience points gained during that level.

How does experience/levelling work in this game?
Experience is distributed on a per hit basis. Two players can both gain experience from an enemy (boss or regular) as long as they are both causing damage to that enemy.

--Each time you level up you are granted a certain number of experience blocks that you can apply to one of four attributes (strength, defense, magic, speed).

--The only bar that grants newfound abilities through applying experience blocks is magic.

--Combos are learned automatically as your character level rises.

--Maximum level achievable is level 99.

How many weapons?
Over 40!!

How many levels?
A lot.

How many pets?
Over 20!!

How many Microsoft Points?
1,200 Microsoft Points

Is this game coming to other platforms?
Right now the only platform is Xbox 360 LIVE Arcade. If we balance our team/time/money/options for port work, it is always a possibility.

Recap: Day Before the Wedding

por | | 0 comments
Let the wedding recaps begin!  We've passed our three month anniversary, so I think I've procrastinated enough before showing and telling all the wonderful moments from our wedding day.  First up, the day before the wedding:

The day started out with a quiet breakfast, just Anthony and me, in the hotel restaurant.  At this point, we were both pretty stressed and pretty nervous.  It was wonderful to have some alone time with each other.  I highly recommend scheduling this into your wedding week!  We calm each other down in times of stress, which I'm sure will come in handy in our marriage!

Most of the day was committed to PAMPERING!  My bridesmaids had come from all over the country, so I wanted all of us to feel pampered and beautiful.  I took them to a fabulous restaurant for lunch, Perry's Steakhouse, where I went before my senior prom years ago.  [ Insert flashback here to Clare in a ridiculous beaded prom dress ]  During lunch, I gave them bridesmaid thank-you gifts.

After lunch, we moved on to mani-pedis and more girl talk.

Turns out my mom had never had a modern pedicure, so one sweet 'maid had to talk her through it.  She was a champ!

Later on, it was time for the rehearsal!  I hired day-of coordinators (BEST decision ever!), so I loaded up their SUV with all of my wedding day supplies.  It felt AMAZING to be able to unload all of that, and not have to deal with it on my wedding day.  The coordinators also helped direct the rehearsal with the priest:

My maid of honor brought along the fake bouquet she made me for the rehearsal.  I'm not sure if this is a tradition everywhere, or just in the South.  At all of the bridal showers, the maid of honor collects ribbons from the gifts to make the rehearsal bouquet.

After the rehearsal, we went straight on to the rehearsal dinner.  Unfortunately, I was incredibly nervous after the rehearsal, so I completely forgot to take pictures of the rehearsal dinner AND we forgot to do any toasts!

We had a wonderful location for the dinner, in a private room at Chabuca's, a Brazilian-style churrascaria steakhouse.  Similar to Fogo de Chao, servers walk around with big skewers of meats and cut off what you want.  Plus there's a giant salad bar.  Chabuca's is run by a really nice man from Texas who married a really nice woman from South America, so the price is about a third of Fogo de Chao!  Everyone loved the dinner, because there's literally something for everyone.
