I've been looking forward to Kate and Chris' wedding at Langley Castle in Northumberland, England on New Year's Eve all year.
And so it finally came to pass ..... on one of the snowiest days of the year and at the beginning of the longest period of snow and ice and low temperatures for 30 years in the UK!
Getting to Langley was a bit hairy to say the least, and I was up most of the previous night hoping that I would not break my record in never missing a wedding in 25 years!
I arrived about 4 hours before the ceremony - just to make sure, and met with Kate as she wandered around this magnificent castle wedding venue in her towelling dressing gown meeting and greeting her early arrivals - she was pretty chilled out and looking forward to her BIG celebration!
Arriving so early gave me a chance to put on my walking boots and suit which seems to have become my December wedding outfit at the end of 2009. I took some lovely photographs of Langley Castle in the snow before heading up to the bridal suite that I now know so well as Kate started to get ready.
You need to be fit at Langley Castle as a wedding photographer as there's five floors and no lift (well, there is a service lift) - it's a REAL castle, not a pretend one like many others!
Chris arrived about 12.15 through the snow from his parents home in Langley Castle and was met at the door of the castle where an old polish wedding custom (Chris' side of the family...) of offering the chief bridesmaid varying sizes of vodka bottles to allow him entry to the castle for his own wedding .. there was a lot of to-ing and fro-ing between Chris and the best man and the chief bridesmaid before a 'fee' was worked out!
Final preparations with Chris and the registrar and Anton from Langley Castle kept me busy - and up and down the stairs - alongside Kate's final preparations.
Both were very nervous so I kept in the background as much as possible and before long the ceremony was over and we were straight out in the snow through the front doors of the castle.
Fresh air was welcome as it was VERY warm during the ceremony, but Kate and Chris and I knew there would be only a few minutes before guests would want to be back in the warmth, but this was an ideal opportunity to make an image of everyone - the downside being that I had to 'sprint' four floors back up the castle to the bridal suite to make the photograph we needed!
In the hour afterwards before the wedding breakfast there was time to enjoy a relaxing drink - the guests, not me - and grab a few informal groups around the Christmas tree while listening to the fine harpist - and a quick dash outside for 5 minutes so that Kate could put her wellies on for a few fun snow photos!
The wedding breakfast flew along and soon it was laughter and tears during the fine speeches.
The weather didn't look good at all, so Chris and Kate and I dashed outside in a snow storm for a few minutes for a few last minute images with the floodlit Langley Castle and it was agreed that I should head off while I could for the two hour drive home on the snowy, scary roads and back home to the east coast.
A great day of celebration for both Chris and Kate.
I hope you enjoy a SNEAK PEAK of a few of the images from their great days. Once kate and Chris have enjoyed their honeymoon in Africa I shall post more. For relatives and friends, Kate and Chris will send you an e-mail link to their private gallery so you can view all the images from their wedding at Langley Castle Northumberland Northumberland.

These days, many many people are starting their own online blogs. Sometimes it's just a life journal. Sometimes it is a way to keep in contact with friends/family. And sometimes, the journal is about something more specific- political blogs, food blogs, scrapbooking blogs, some interest or goal of the blogger.
I don't know how things work with livejournal, but with blogspot and wordpress, you can add a title graphic. Sure, you can find many gorgeous layouts on the internet, that people have created. But the crown piece, the first thing the blogger sees- is the title. Many blogs just have some blocky text declaring their title.
Well, more and more people want something personalized, something custom, something... more interesting.
I've recently gotten a start on creating blog title graphics for people. My own, you can see, is not overly complicated. And yet, it is much nicer than a blocky "Save the Date Originals".
To view some blog title graphics I have created, follow this link.

Throughout the ceremony, the bride was marveled at her new husband's inquiries about the different traditional Chinese customs that he kept observing. While removing the palanquin, Steven spotted a saddle and a fire pit in front of him. After a brief hesitation, he asked, "What are these for?" The master of ceremony explained that the saddle symbolized peace as it has the same pronunciation in Chinese as "peace," while the fire pit is to burn bad luck away and brings a bright future.

I have to confess: I really thought finding a flower girl dress would be easy. No way! I wanted an affordable (read: $50 or less) dress that would fit in with the rest of the bridal party. I thought "How much can a dress for small child cost? It can't be near what the bridesmaid dresses cost, right?" Wrong!
I started out at David's Bridal, where we got the bridesmaid dresses. Why are the dresses for a person only 4 feet tall so expensive? Most of the dresses I saw were $80 to $130. These are a few options in our main color (purple) and ivory (my dress color).
They have lots of "mini bridal" styles to match your own wedding gown. These wierd me out a bit. No, I don't want a mini-me walking around at my wedding.
Apparently "sale" for JCrew means $125 down from $165. I feel like I could get this same simple dress in my size for even less. With a white or ivory dress, I'm concerned that the girl could never wear it again (and/or will spill grape juice on it within 5 minutes). While I'm OK with that for bridesmaids, I feel bad making the parents spend that amount of money, since the flower girl is really only involved in the wedding for about 5 minutes.
Having struck out at stores with established wedding attire, I started looking online. This is an adorable flower girl dress (just look at all that tulle!), but was a little bit above my price range. I was wary of buying the dress online, since I couldn't really tell what the quality would be of something labeled as an "affordable flower girl dress".
I struck out yet again with online stores, so I started checking department stores. Finally, success! With Easter being right before my wedding, lots of white "Easter" dresses are out in the stores at affordable prices. Plus, lots of them have some sort of color detail, making them wearable again for the girl.
These dresses are almost never labeled as a "flower girl dress". The easiest thing to do is go to each store's website, and scroll through all the dresses to find the white ones or the dresses in your wedding colors. This one's description says "for preschool or kindergarten graduation". Ummm, or for a flower girl gig?
Bonnie Jean Crepe Dress at JCPenney (sale $30, originally $50)
Cinderella Floral Dress at JCPenney (sale $40, originally $70)
This is the final dress I chose, from Dillards. The purple dots are perfect for my purple wedding! The dress was $45 in the store, but I found it for even less at Sophia's Style online ($41 including shipping). I can't wait to see a little girl walking down the aisle in this cute dress!

This customer ordered save the dates previously. The MV31 design http://savethedateoriginals.com/details/MV31.php was actually created for this couple. You may notice a similar theme carried with the invitations. These are printed on cream card stock; The customer needed the main invitation card, the usual 5x7 inches, then an RSVP card, a map/directions card, and a card for hotel information. I did create the map for the customer based on one they provided (it had to be recreated for the appropriate size and resolution).

I met with Fay and Nick and her mum, and grandmother at their home to talk about their wedding in July 2010.
We seemed to get along like a house on fire, and their intention was to be married at the famous Crab Manor / Crab and lobster near Asenby, Thirsk in North Yorkshire, one of my favourite wedding venues in the north of England.
It's a famously quirky hotel and restaurant in its own grounds serving fabulous food and with superb service - and has fast become a wedding venue of choice for those in the know.
They loved the San francisco A3 sized wedding books with up to 200 images, and the possibility of having dupicate books for family and friends and I had such a nice time, my fingers were tightly crossed that I would be chosen to be a small but important part of their day - documenting their fabulous relaxed wedding at The Crab and Lobster.
Good news arrived a few days later, so if you were looking for me to attend your wedding on 18th july 2010, I'm sorry, I'll be photographing Fay and Nick's great day at The Crab and Lobster!

Title: UFONAUT News - Defense Minister Paul Hellyer Warns the World
Paul Hellyer is one of Canada's best known and most controversial politicians. First elected in 1949, he was the youngest cabinet minister appointed to Louis S. St. Laurent's government eight years later. He subsequently held senior posts in the governments of Lester B. Pearson and Pierre E. Trudeau, who defeated him for the Liberal Party leadership in 1968. The following year, after achieving the rank of senior minister, which was later designated Deputy Prime Minister.
In recent years he has become interested in the extraterrestrial presence and their superior technology that we have been emulating. In September 2005 he became the first person of cabinet rank in the G8 group of countries to state unequivocally "UFO's are as real as the airplanes flying overhead." His new book warns the population of earth about coming events if we don't alter our current path.

Title: Inception Music Comparison
This occurred to me when I came home after seeing the movie, and was listening to Hans ZImmer's score. I'm not saying the cues we hear in the movie are slowed down. Zimmer appears to be using Piaf's song as a foundation for extrapolation. This phenomenon may be obvious to a lot of you out there, but this video serves as a way for people to hear them side by side and to visualize and understand what Zimmer is doing with the score.
I think the score is terrific.

Something I'm seeing more of: invitations for weddings, and other parties, that incorporate a playing card theme.
With a design that might remind you of a playing card, these invitations might work for couples getting married in a Casino, in Vegas, or who like to gamble, or for those fun pre-wedding parties.
The two featured invitations are both examples of how this can be done with a simple, cost effective design. Both are made of white card stock, and have rounded corners.
