Our Dogs Crashed Our Engagement Pictures

por | | 0 comments

We have two big crazy Labradors who we love to death, and who we take to the dog park every Saturday so they can run around and swim with other big crazy dogs until they pass out from exhaustion. Saturday morning at the dog park is the best part of the week! We chose Red Bud Isle dog park for our engagement pictures because it's one of our favorite places in Austin and because it is absolutely gorgeous.

Our Dogs Crashed Our Engagement PicturesLook how pretty it is!

But then came the predicament:
  • Do we include our dogs in the pictures? "Awww they'd be so cute"
  • Can we go to the dog park and not take our dogs? "That just doesn't seem fair to the dogs"
  • Will they sit still for cute pictures with them? "Nope, they've got wiggly puppy energy"
  • Will they jump up on us when we're trying to take pictures without them? "You betcha"

Our photographer was game for seeing how it went with the dogs, and just leaving them out if they weren't sitting peacefully for the camera. About 30 seconds after we got there, BOOM the dogs were in the water...

Our Dogs Crashed Our Engagement PicturesSmells like wet dog.

Since we had some drenched puppies on our hands, we decided it would be better to leave the dogs out of the pictures. Somehow the dogs didn't get that memo.

Our Dogs Crashed Our Engagement Pictures"Oh I'm sorry, were you trying to take a picture?"

After the pups had been for their morning swim, they decided we weren't paying enough attention to them. Well, we were trying to focus more on the nice lady taking our pictures.

Our Dogs Crashed Our Engagement Pictures"Play with me! Play with me!"

Thanks to the wet paws, jumping, and clamoring for our attention, most of our pictures have two features: wet jeans and dirty jeans.

Our Dogs Crashed Our Engagement Pictures
Our lovely (and patient!) photographer also commented that she was constantly playing "where's the puppy butt", trying to keep the dogs out of the pictures. If you look carefully, you'll see some mysterious white lumps in the backgrounds.

Our Dogs Crashed Our Engagement Pictures
Even with all the dog chaos, I think our engagement photos turned out beautiful BECAUSE we brought the pups with us. Most of the best pictures are of us laughing about the dogs' antics. They made us relax and natural in front of the camera because they make us happy ... and because we were more focused on preventing them from jumping on the photographer than on putting on a stiff smile for the camera. Looking at our engagement pictures reminds me of what our regular life looks like every day at home.

The driver lost control, skidding off the road landing upside down in four feet of water. The driver and a small dog were trapped for 15 minutes before being rescued. Fortunately they found an air pocket.

Alex a yellow lab was not as lucky. trapped underneath a front seat without an air pocket for nearly 60 minutes. Because of the very murky water conditions, dive team members had to work by feel to free the lifeless Alex. It was feared Alex was dead. Alex came back to life after being removed! :)

Title: Roller Coaster Crash In Edmonton Canada - 3 People Killed On Mindbender (1986)

West Edmonton Mall, Fantasyland indoor amusement park. (Now named Galaxyland.)

On the evening of June 14, 1986, after the yellow train (train #1) completed the second inverted loop, it encountered one of three areas of uplift before the third and final loop. Missing bolts on the left inside wheel assembly of the last car of the four car train caused the bogey assembly to disengage the track with a full load of riders. This caused the final car to fishtail wildly, disengaging the lap bars as it collided with support structures, thereby throwing off passengers and losing speed. The train entered the third and final inverted loop, but did not have the speed to complete the loop. The train stalled at the top, then slid backwards, crashing into a concrete pillar. Three people, David Sager, 24, Tony Mandrusiak, 24, and Cindy Simms, 21, were killed during the accident and a fourth man was severely injured and nearly killed.

At the time of the accident the park was packed with people who were attending a concert. The ride had shut down twice, as the operator had heard a metallic noise from the train prior to the accident. Despite running the trains empty, the source of the problem could not be located by the maintenance staff, and the regular operation of the ride resumed until the accident occurred. With the stage located atop the jumping fountains, many had a horrific view as the band played and the coaster derailed. The Mindbender was immediately closed. An investigation and inquiry was launched that revealed that there were problems in the translation from German to English of operational and maintenance information from Schwarzkopf, the German coaster manufacturer. Additional issues with quality control were found as a result of the manufacturer going bankrupt during delivery of the ride, and portions of the ride being finished by the receiver of the firm.

When the Mindbender reopened seven months later, the trains were redesigned. Existing four car trains were converted to 3 car trains, each have four bogeys on two axles (front and rear). Anti-roll back "dogs" were added to prevent the train from rolling backwards during the initial lift. Seating capacity was reduced from 16 to 12 per train. The lap bar restraint was retained, but seat belts and a shoulder headrest were added for redundancy. The design of the vertical axle was changed so that the axle became a fixed part of the bogey, and the retaining bolt was moved to the top of the axle, where it is easily inspected. Finally, maintenance checks and scheduled maintenance downtimes were significantly increased. In the twenty-three years since the accident, the Mindbender has had an excellent safety record.

Prior to the accident, the Mindbender had two yellow, two red, and two blue trains. After the accident, the original trains were sent to Germany for rebuild into the trains in use today. However they returned only in red and blue colors, to ease the public perception of yellow trains which were featured in the media post-crash. Recently, the trains were repainted, and yellow color has returned.

After the government inquiry, the damaged yellow train #1 was returned to the mall, along with other materials seized during the inquiry. The first three cars of train #1 were stored in the basement of the mall until later disposed of. The fourth car which derailed, was cut up by welders torch into small burned unrecognizable bits and disposed of. Train #1 was not reused, but occasionally scratches in the paint of the current vehicles, might reveal the identity of train #2, the second original yellow train.

BELLE BRIDAL WEDDING MAGAZINE ISSUE TWO FEATURES RACHEL'S WEDDING

BELLE BRIDAL WEDDING MAGAZINE ISSUE TWO FEATURES RACHEL'S WEDDING
BELLE BRIDAL WEDDING MAGAZINE ISSUE TWO FEATURES RACHEL'S WEDDING
It's great to have Issue 2 of Belle Bridal magazine in my hands this week.

I helped them distribute their wedding magazine at the UK Wedding Show at Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle a week or so ago to raise £250+ for breast cancer research with publisher Karen Bell of Inka Publishing.

It was a very busy couple of hours while I helped them raise the money and the enthusiasm from the public was infectious!

I have Rachel and Jonathan's wedding at Headlam Hall featured in the magazine this issue, but I have to say that it very much looks like a national bridal magazine rather than an inferior regional magazine, and we should all be proud that it is designed and published in Sunderland.

The magazine is packed full of information and wedding vendors for North East brides - from The Borders and Northumberland down to North Yorkshire and beyond - highly recommended!

Movie ticket themed wedding invitations

por | | 0 comments

This post is about a design idea for a 5x7 movie ticket themed invitation set.

Naturally, there are are a lot of ways you could incorporate a movie theme for an invitation- this is just one idea!

Movie ticket themed wedding invitations

This invitation is a white 5x7 inch card printed over with the design. With digital printing, this is actually the only way to get light text and a dark background- completely covering the card in ink.

Two drama faces hide at the sides of the ticket, and the rsvp card matches the invitation.

This project also turns out to be another good example of multi-lingual invitations. In this case, a second set of the invitations is in Spanish.

This particular design idea would also work well with a colored card stock. Below is a photograph of a yellow toned card printed with black ink.

Movie ticket themed wedding invitations

If you wanted to carry the theme even further, you could actually have me cut out the half-circles at the sides of the invitation.

WEDDING: Outdoor Ceremony at the Clubhouse in La Mirada, CA

por | | 0 comments

CONGRATULATIONS: Shonna and Danny!

This ceremony focused on the importance of family, and celebrated the coming together of two wonderful families. There was also a special tribute included, honouring the bride's dog Ginger, who had to be euthanized the week before the wedding:

At this time of coming together, it is also a time of transition and change in Danny and Shonna’s lives, but one constant, unfortunately, is no longer here with us. Therefore, before we continue, we must take a moment to pay a very special tribute to a very special dog. Ginger came into Shonna’s life when Shonna was just nine years old. She was just the most amazing dog Shonna had ever come in contact with, and she was the one, at least until Danny, to provide Shonna with unconditional love, loyalty and companionship. Ginger will be missed more than anyone can imagine.

The entire affair was run, seemingly single-handedly, by Natalie at LA MIRADA GOLF COURSE. She is a truly hands-on coordinator, whether it involves shuttling guests and wedding parties, or laying down the runner before the ceremony started. A beautiful string duet was played by Missy and Nancy of ___________. Photography (but not photo below) provided by ____________.

HEADLAM HALL IS A GREAT LOCATION FOR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY, A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER'S DREAM AND FOR THOSE BRIDES WHO CHOOSE SUCH A FANTASTIC WEDDING VENUE FOR THEIR SUMMER OR WINTER WEDDING, THERE'S ALWAYS A GREAT WELCOME AND SERVICE FROM STAFF.

One of my recent weddings was for Rachel and Jonathan who wanted a really chilled out wedding with their closest family and friends at St Godric's Church in Durham with a wedding reception at Headlam Hall on the border between North Yorkshire, Teesdale and County Durham - and they got their wish!

Both training to be dentists, I had met with them at Headlam Hall with Rachel's mum too about 18 months or so before their wedding, just chatting and laughing about their plans for their wedding in Durham and their plans for their reception at Headlam Hall.

It was a beautiful day in August and the gathering friends and relatives at St Godric's Church on the hill close to Durham were full of excited chatter about the day ahead. Jonathan was calm cool and collected, and later, when Rachel arrived in her beautiful classic Jaguar car, not only did she look stunning, but she was also pretty cool and relaxed too.

The wedding ceremony was fun too, and the clergy were kind enough to allow me to discreetly take photographs during the ceremony from the front of the church - usually no bother in a Catholic church, but rare in a C of E Church nowadays.

The 'secret' garden lay down pas a car park, and through a covered walkway, and down the side of a house which opened out into quite the best viewpoint of Durham Cathedral I have seen - and terrific for a few formal family wedding photographs before we headed to Headlam Hall.

Headlam Hall, along with Crathorne Hall is one of the finest wedding venues for civil ceremonies and receptions for many, many miles around. One of my all time favourite venues.

Service, attention to detail and staff are second to none - highly recommended

Champagne and canapes with the vast gardens at the guests' disposal gave me the chance to capture the fun and atmosphere of the day and after an hour or so of relaxed conversation in the sun, I quickly gathered close relatives together together with siblings and bridesmaids for a few quick, relaxed group shots and one main photograph of the whole party on the lawn - total 10 minutes, everyone was smiling, that laughed at my silly jokes and the photographs looked great!

Why does it take so many 'wedding photographers' so looooong to complete these images?

Into the Edwardian Suite for the wedding breakfast which was superb as always, and then tears, laughter and fun during some excellent speeches - giving me lots of photograph opportunities.

By the end of the fun, it was 7pm and it was time for me to grab Rachel and Jonathan for 15 minutes to create some nice photographs of them together in the grounds - but return them in time to greet their evening guests and ready themselves for their first dance and the fun of the evening ahead!

I left about 9pm, the party was in full swing ... and I was off to edit their photographs so they would be ready on their return from the Far East from honeymoon.

I hope you enjoyed a small number of the 400+ final edited images which documents their fantastic wedding at Durham and at Headlam Hall

IF YOU ENJOYED THESE IMAGES ... WHY NOT HAVE A LOOK AT RHOANNE AND ANDREW'S WEDDING AT HEADLAM HALL?

CHILDREN AT WEDDINGS .....

CHILDREN AT WEDDINGS .....
I love having children at weddings, they bring a life and vitality to the proceedings .. if they're well behaved of course!
Luckily, I haven't come across one badly behaved child in the past 6 years and usually they are lucky enough to have good parents who offer them a lot of love and support.
I have hundreds of lovely images from weddings of children enjoying their day, and there's quite a few on this blog already, but editing a wedding recently I came across this one from last summer that I had forgotten about .. it's a great image from Rick and Deborah's wedding at Crathorne Hall in North Yorkshire

Title: Kuwait City, Kuwait: Wedding Fire Killed over 40 women and children!

Become a fan of my YouTube Channel on Facebook!:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kuwait-Kuwait/Lynnphotos84-YouTube-Page/291821756968?ref=nf

KUWAIT CITY (Aug. 17) - Kuwaiti authorities have apprehended the person suspected of setting fire to a wedding tent and killing 41 people and said Monday the motive was personal. Local newspapers reported the groom's ex-wife was the arsonist.

The inferno Saturday night in the tribal area of al-Jahra, west of Kuwait City, ate up the women's tent in just three minutes and left behind bodies so charred they were unrecognizable. Guests likely crushed one another in a desperate attempt to flee. It was still unclear if the bride had survived.

The alleged arsonist has been identified and "confessed to committing the crime for personal reasons," Interior Ministry spokesman Col. Mohammed al-Saber told state-owned Kuwait television.

Al-Saber's statement made no reference to an ex-wife, and he did not answer telephone calls seeking comment Monday. But Kuwaiti newspapers speculated on the cause of the fire, saying that the groom's former wife was to blame. The headline in the English-language Kuwait Times was "'Scorned' Woman Unleashed Fury."

The independent Al-Qabas daily said the groom's former wife, who is 23 years old, poured gasoline on the tent and lit it because she felt her ex-husband mistreated her when they were married.

A statement Monday from the Interior Ministry carried by the Kuwait News Agency said the perpetrator was in custody, but no name or details were given.

The "final and exact" death toll discussed in a high-level security meeting Monday was 41, said Kuwaiti Fire Department chief, Brig. Gen. Jassem al-Mansouri. Earlier reports Monday had raised the death toll to 43 after two people died overnight from burns. But al-Mansouri said after further investigation authorities determined that only 39 people died during the initial blaze. He said the bodies were so badly burned, it was difficult for investigators to determine how many people perished.

The chief, who described the fire as the worst disaster he's seen in almost four decades of service, said 6 bodies were still unidentified and it was not known if the bride survived the carnage. Fifty-two others injured in the blaze remained in the hospital, the health minister, Hilal al-Sayer, told the TV.

Al-Mansouri and the Interior Ministry declined to comment on the reports accusing the ex-wife of having a role in the fire pending an investigation. Authorities have promised to publicize the full results of the probe.

Kuwaitis celebrate weddings in separate parties for men and women, with children attending the women's event which features singing and dancing and a dinner buffet.

In tribal regions, some hold these parties in tents, a custom rooted in Kuwait's nomadic heritage. In wealthier urban areas, such parties take place in five-star hotels or special halls.
Kuwait's emir, Sheik Sabah Al Ahmed Al Sabah, said that out of sympathy for the victims he will not be receiving the customary well wishers for the advent of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which starts later this week.

Las Vegas Cowgirl Cookies

por | | 0 comments

As part of the Vegas Bachelorette Survival Packs, I included some homemade cookie mix for the girls to take home with them: Vegas Cowgirl Cookies!

Las Vegas Cowgirl Cookies
I was inspired by Bakerella's Cowgirl Cookie Mix Jars, which fit because everyone on the trip was from Texas! But of course I had to put a casino spin on them. "Vegas Cowgirl" reminds me of Vegas Vicky, one of the "Glitter Gulch" signs in Vegas:

The recipe I used comes straight from Bakerella:
1 1/3 cup all purpose flour, spooned into measuring cup & leveled
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup cooking oats
3/4 cup m&ms (I used my "casino mix": bags of red, white, and black from Michaels)
3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup white sugar
1/3 – 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Las Vegas Cowgirl Cookies
Start with smooth quart Ball jars, especially made for crafts. I found them in the "vase and jar art" section at Michaels: look for signs with sand art. Read Bakerella's post on how to layer the dry ingredients. To get the ingredients into the jars without spreading flour all over my kitchen, I made a makeshift funnel out of printer paper and tape.

Las Vegas Cowgirl Cookies
To decorate the top of the jars, cut out squares of gingham fabric and add a strip of feather boa for a little Vegas flair. Here are my jars pre-flair:

Las Vegas Cowgirl Cookies
I put the leftover m&ms in a tin, and made that part of the gift as well:

Las Vegas Cowgirl Cookies
I hope the cookies turn out well!
