MARTIN AND JAGDEEN'S WEDDING AT HARDWICK HALL SEDGEFIELD

por | | 0 comments

I met with Martin and Jag a couple of times at different wedding fairs at Ramside Hall, and Hardwick Hall last year as they checked out different suppliers for their Sikh wedding for this year.

Plans changed a little because of unforseen circumstances, but they always had a smile on their faces, and you just knew that however the day turned out - it was going to be a great day!

Luckily, last week, Martin rang to say that they would very much like me to be part of their wedding celebrations at Wynyard and Hardwick Hall and capture some great relaxed wedding photographs of their family and friends having a wonderful time .....

So, if you were planning to invite me to photograph your wedding on Sunday 5th July 2009, I'll be a little bit busy photographing a lovely wedding at Hardwick Hall near Sedgefield

Fan Programs Part 1

Fan Programs Part 1

Fan programs are not something I've offered as of yet, despite a few requests. This is because I do not really offer custom shapes.

However, one of my customers recently suggested a version of the fan program idea that only requires rectangular pieces of card stock, and it was time to give it a try.

Fan Programs Part 1

I have assembled layer invitations, and so this was not overly different. The example is of two 8.5x8 inch pieces card stock, with a handle. What I noticed when assembling was that... first lying one piece of card stock flat, then attaching the handle, and then attaching the other piece of card stock.... you end up with one flat side, and the other with a bulge from the handle. Because of that, using a piece of colored card stock for the back- with the bulge- and leaving the front side for printing really does look best.

Officiant for WEDDING: Outdoor Ceremony at Griffith Park in Los Angeles, CA

Officiant for WEDDING: Outdoor Ceremony at Griffith Park in Los Angeles, CA
CONGRATULATIONS, Jessica and Matt!
This was a perfectly simple and lovely ceremony, tucked away in the MINERAL WELLS PICNIC AREA of Griffith Park. The bride and groom stood alone and exchanged vows in front of their friends and family, with the trees and grass and sky as their backdrop.

One of the beautiful things about this particular wedding was how the ceremony text itself was created.  Most all of the wedding words and ceremony sentiments were from the couple's letters to each other, over the years. They also incorporated a poem written by David Whyte, which was read by a friend.

After the ceremony, Hall & Oates' recently revived You Make My Dreams Come True was blasted through a portable powered speaker.

Closing Sale at Bailey, Banks, and Biddle

por | | 0 comments

I'm probably the last one to hear this, but jewelry store chain Bailey, Banks, and Biddle is closing! The entire store is marked down 40 - 60% off. This is a great chance to get your wedding jewelry at a huge discount.

Closing Sale at Bailey, Banks, and Biddle
I checked out the selection at the Austin store this weekend, and they still have great pieces. Lots of sparkly diamonds, pearls, gemstones, and stuff for the men too: watches and cufflinks. I didn't find anything I wanted, but maybe you will! The Austin store will be open until December 31. One of the salesmen told me things are selling out quickly though, so don't wait too long.

Recap: Remnants of Hurricane Ike

por | | 0 comments

Even though our wedding took place over a year and a half after Hurricane Ike hit Galveston, we were still reminded of the hurricane on our wedding day.  I started visiting reception sites on the island just a few months after Ike, and almost every site we visited had water and wind damage.  Everyone assured me they were able to make repairs by the time our wedding rolled around.

Notice the boarded up windows at the Hotel Galvez in the picture above.

Several Galveston attractions like the Railroad Museum were still closed on our wedding weekend.  It was disappointing to not be able to take our extended families to those fun places.

"Ike Water Line" signs can be seen all over the island, especially on the Strand where the water level was over 10 feet.  We came across this one on our little jaunt on the street between the ceremony and the reception.

VOW RENEWAL: Military theme at Calafia Bluff in San Clemente, CA

por | | 0 comments

CONGRATULATIONS: Megan and Shane!! VOW RENEWAL: Military theme at Calafia Bluff in San Clemente, CA
(And of course, also to their three lovely children, Shayna, Hunter and Travis...)
i had the honour and privilege to officiate the vow renewal ceremony for this special couple. The bride had wanted this ceremony to celebrate their marriage, which, today, is "better than ever" after ten and a half years. The husband, who is on active duty in the United States Marine Corps, wore his alpha blouse /uniform, which is entirely different from the usual dress blues. The ceremony took place high atop a bluff overlooking Calafia Beach, a part of San Clemente State Beach with a small group of family and friends in attendance. Title: U.S. Armed Forces Honor President Bush For His Service With An Award.

God bless the U.S. Military, the last hope for the world.

I have a love hate political relationship with President Bush. But on the matter of national defense and the war on terror, we do not differ.

Let me say just one thing about the Iraq war. The goals of the war and the exit strategy have never changed. The goal is and has always been to create a free and independent democracy in the Middle East so as to help spread peace throughout the region. The exit strategy is and has always been, they stand up and then we stand down. Nothing has ever changed except the will of the American people to see something of great difficulty through to the end.

Defense Leaders Laud Bush at Farewell Ceremony
By Donna Miles
American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Jan. 6, 2009 Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates and Navy Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, today praised President George W. Bush as a patriot who has championed the nation's men and women in uniform while standing up to terrorists who threaten the United States.
The defense leaders paid tribute to the president during an armed forces farewell ceremony at Fort Myer, Va.

Gates called Bush a visionary who recognized before becoming president the threat terrorists and other unconventional threats posed, and that the military was still structured to confront Cold War-era conventional threats.

But even more so, Gates said, Bush had the fortitude to confront terrorists head-on when they attacked the United States just months after he took office, as he propelled a historic transformation of the U.S. military.

The result is an American military that has become more agile, lethal and prepared to deal with the full spectrum of 21st century conflict, Gates said. He noted that the military has become a force dramatically more deployable and expeditionary than when he last served in government 15 years ago.

Gates cited just a few of the historic changes that have taken place under Bushs leadership:

-- The Army carried out its most significant restructuring in more than two generations, moving from a division-based to a modular, brigade-based force.

-- The Navys Fleet Response Plan nearly doubled the number of strike carrier groups that can be surged in the first weeks of a crisis.

-- Special operations forces have seen vast increases in budget, personnel, authorities and capabilities critical to the campaign against terrorism worldwide.

-- The number of unmanned aerial vehicles has grown some 40-fold to more than 6,000.

-- The military has undergone a genuine revolution in its ability to fuse intelligence and operations.

-- Cold War-era bases in Germany, South Korea and Japan have been modernized and sized to better reflect the security requirements of this century.

-- New authorities and programs enable the military to build the capacity of allies and partners in cooperation with civilian agencies and organizations.

Gates noted that in the midst of this transformation, Bush showed strength as he led the military through two major conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan and a broader struggle against terrorist networks around the globe.

He has not flinched when faced with difficult wartime decisions, including the momentous decision two years ago to send more troops into Iraq and revamp our strategy there, Gates said.

Mullen joined Gates in thanking Bush for leading the U.S. military at a critical time in the countrys history.

After this nation was attacked by a rising evil, the same evil which later murdered many others in places like London, Madrid, Islamabad and Mumbai, you quickly led us from the grip of fear to a serenity of purpose and unity of action, he said.

Mullen called that serenity well beyond our dreams on Sept. 12, [2001] when all thought further attack was not only likely, but gravely imminent.

He credited Bush for having the vision to establish a new national security strategy to reach Americas enemies overseas so they could not revisit U.S. soil.

We sent our forces to hills and caves, alongside tribesmen on horseback, to root them out and hunt them down, he said. We liberated Iraq from tyranny, now on the road to renewal. And we are shifting our focus to Afghanistan.

Through these operations, Mullen told Bush, we felt your unmatched confidence in us, which only made us better.

Title: US Tries to Match its Military Drive in Afghanistan with a Socio-economic Development Component

As Afghans wait for results from last Thursday's disputed presidential and provincial election, the Obama administration is pressing for non-military efforts that would strengthen the new government. The civilian campaign is aimed at providing social stability and economic opportunities for the Afghan people who appear to be losing faith in a government that has been increasingly challenged by the Taliban. VOA's Ravi Khanna reports the Special U.S. Representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan, Richard Holbrooke, has gathered a special team for the civilian drive.

A Tree-Free Wedding with Crane and Co, Plus FREE Paper Samples!

por | | 0 comments

Sometimes my wedding fulfills childhood dreams in unexpected ways.  I didn't really dream about getting married like a lot of little girls do, but there were certain things I wanted out of life.  For the longest time, I have been a huge fan of Crane & Co stationery.  I love the feel of it, the design of it, and the quality.  When I was younger, I wanted to be an adult and get a job, so I could buy lots of Crane paper!

When I got engaged and started thinking about invitations, I immediately went to the Crane website Wedding section.  Yikes!  Major sticker shock.  $1300 for just an invitation, reception card, reply card, and envelopes.  No directions card, accommodations card, or million other cards we needed to include.  So I put that dream away and started designing my own invitations.

When I started looking around for getting my invitation design printed, I discovered Crane Business Papers and Crane Lettra paper made specifically for letterpressing: Crane sells the same paper it prints on for its lovely stationery products in bulk to printing companies.  I could have a Crane wedding with my own invitation design, AND it would fit in my budget!  DREAM COME TRUE!  *Commence jumping for joy*

But let's get to the point:

A Tree-Free Wedding
Crane paper feels so good because it really is completely different from everyday paper: it's made from 100% cotton.  No wood fibers at all.  Crane paper doesn't even look at wood fibers.  It turns its paper nose up at wood fibers.  Crane paper is more like a dollar bill than regular paper.  Who doesn't want a wedding invitation that feels like money?

A Cotton-Free Wedding
What? Didn't I just say Crane paper is made from cotton? No cotton is grown for Crane paper: the paper is made from the fibers leftover when they pull the cotton from the plant and from trimmings from the textile industry. That means the leftovers from the t-shirt you're wearing right now could have made some paper.

InkJet and Laser Printer Guaranteed
Take a look at the Crane Business Papers website.  Several of their paper product lines will say "Inkjet and Laser Printer Guaranteed".  Some 100% cotton paper made by other companies will literally clog up your ink cartridge with little cotton fibers coming off the page.  Nope, not Crane & Co.  Before you start feeding pages through your home printer though, check that your printer can handle the thickness of the page.

Free Samples
Crane & Co will mail you a free swatchbook and samples of its business papers just by filling out this form:
http://www.neenahpaper.com/cranepaper/business/M06_S01.html

They sent me a physical swatch book, plus samples of every weight, color, and finish of the Crane's Palette line.  I highly recommend getting samples!  I tested a sample sheet with my home inket printer that turned out to be too thick for it to handle.  I saved a ton of money by waiting to order my paper until I had tested that I could actually use it.

Note: Nope, this is not a sponsored post.  I just love Crane paper a whole bunch.
