F.A.Q. about the Uniting American Families Act. ( UAFA ).

Under current law, American citizens can not sponsor their foreign born same-sex permanent partners for familiy reunification. Because of DOMA ( Defense of Marriage Act), even if they are legally married in some states or abroad, their marriage is still not recognized at the federal level, where immigration is handled.

This forces law abiding American citizens to leave homes, businesses, careers and families behind- to go into exile, or live separated or with an uncertain future.

Title: Our Feature Presentation: Personalized Aisle Runners

Because weddings are transitioning more into personalized events, rather than traditional proceedings, it's key for brides and grooms to find their ideal blend of modern day trend to everyday wedded tradition. So, what better way to do this than by customizing your time-honored wedding day accessories with your own personalized style?

One accessory that does this beautifully, is the customary "rolling out of the red carpet" aisle runner. Because every bride dreams of that magical moment when the doors open and she walks down towards the man of her dreams, it's important to make the grand entrance count! And nothing will punctuate your entrance more beautifully than one of our Personalized Aisle Runners.

Fashioned in white, non-woven rayon for traditional look, each of our countless aisle runners is individually crafted for every bride and groom. Available in a variety of accent colors, designs and layouts, our runners become an even more one of a kind keepsake when couples add their names, monogram, initials and wedding date to the design of their choice!

Then, with the free personalization intact, newlyweds will be ready to place it down and roll it out for the big day celebration. Because each runner comes kitted with adhesive strip backing for placement and pull cord for easy extension down the aisle, it's no wonder why this has become an instant best seller!

Measuring 36 inches wide by 100 feet long, these ceremony essentials are designed to fit any aisle, and because the personalization is placed 8 feet from the top, photographers will easily be given a stand-out focal point to capture on the day you say "I do."

But don't let the fun end there! Really let your creativity run wild and line the aisle with petals, tulle, twinkle lights or even candles for added romance. Because it has a look that works just as beautifully inside a traditional church, as it does outside surrounded by nature, you'll see how easily you can instantly transform any location into a ceremony-ready site.

And for even more ways to create an all-around unified theme - check out our long list of matching products that will have your guests: Wedding banners, table runners, photo booth backdrops, cake toppers and surround your wedding day with personalized décor that's all about you!

It truly is exciting to see a wedding day come together, and Personalized Aisle Runners are one way to take your ceremony from ordinary to extraordinary. Thanks for watching and cheers to many years of happiness!

Our Wedding By the Numbers

por | | 0 comments

I would consider my wedding to be a "hometown" wedding. We're getting married in the same town I grew up in, in the same Catholic church I went to for 18 years, and by the same priest who did my first communion, first confession, and confirmation. But, I keep wondering: could my wedding be considered a "destination wedding"?

Both of our families are big, big extended families, and on both sides, *everyone* is invited to a wedding. So we invited what seemed like everyone: 325 people with 140 invitations. But, the vast majority of our families are not in Texas: they're in Louisiana, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and England. Only a whopping 37 people invited actually live in the Houston area. So, we're expecting only around 120 people to attend. If only 11% of the people invited live in the area, does that make it a destination wedding?

Let's check out our acceptance rates. These are rough estimates because we haven't gotten all of our RSVPs back yet. I broke it out by how much our guests would have to spend to come to our wedding: whether they have to buy a plane ticket, and whether they have to get a hotel room.

Local guests (no flight, no hotel room):
29 out of 37: 78%

Guests within a four-hour drive (no flight, need hotel room). Because we're in Houston, this covers most of Texas and Louisiana!
57 out of 104: 55%

Guests in far-away states (need flight and hotel room)
36 out of 131: 27%

International guests (need expensive flight and hotel room)
0 out of 53: 0%

Overall:
38% acceptance

You can see that as the amount it costs to come to our wedding goes up, the acceptance rate goes down - which is to be expected. If you're planning your own wedding, I think your actual percentages might depend on how affluent your family is (or how many people have lost their jobs in this economy!). Our percentages also depended on who was in each "location group": close family, extended family we haven't seen in years, family friends, personal friends, and co-workers.

Most of the "average" acceptance rates online say 70 - 85% of your local guests will attend the wedding, and 40 - 60% of your out-of-town guests will attend. Our guests who don't need a plane ticket fall within those numbers. But, as soon as your guests need to get on a plane to come to our wedding, you might expect even less than that to attend.

KERRY AND PAUL'S INTIMATE FAMILY WEDDING AT TYNEMOUTH

KERRY AND PAUL'S INTIMATE FAMILY WEDDING AT TYNEMOUTH
KERRY AND PAUL'S INTIMATE FAMILY WEDDING AT TYNEMOUTH
Kerry and Paul's wedding was going to be just the way I like my weddings - relaxed, chilled out and interesting with lots of opportunities to capture natural, happy images of them both enjoying a fabulous wedding day celebration with family and friends.

The weather was great all day - clear blue skies and fluffy white clouds - and although I would prefer slightly overcast, it's a lot better than wind and rain coming in sideways!

It was the second recent wedding I have photographed at Holy Saviours Church in Tynemouth and although there are restrictions on photography, the church itself is very nice inside and it also has a small pretty garden area with a nice lawn and shrubs for a few relaxed portraits.

Soon enough we were off to the very smart Arch Restaurtant in the Tynemouth for the reception and speeches with some wonderful food.

There was time to get a few photographs of Kerry and Paul too later on before we headed off for the evening reception by walking through the main street and cliff tops to
Crusoes Café on the beach at Tynemouth Longsands.

There were a few additional guests arriving, but before they did Kerry and Paul and I and some of their closest friends gallopped down to the water's edge for some fun photos too.

The North Sea on the north east coast of England is never the most attractive location, but this evening the gods shined upon us all, the sea looked as blue as the Caribbean and the setting sun warmed us all up nicely and made for some great photographs to finish off a wedding album or print as a large canvas or acrylic.

A great day of celebration - and then it was off to Egypt for Kerry and Paul, with their proof prints and presentation box awaiting their return!

If you are marrying at Tynemouth soon, give me a call and I'd be happy to advise and help you with your wedding day photography and plans.

Winter Cards & Magnets

por | | 0 comments

Tis the season. If you mail out holiday cards yearly, you will soon be at work addressing them.

This website still does not have a fleshed out holiday section; Nonetheless, each year I turn out a number of holiday, Christmas, winter, and/or New Year themed cards.

Sometimes they are traditional:
Winter Cards & Magnets

Sometimes they are a little more fun:
Winter Cards & Magnets

And sometimes, I find myself working on a number of magnetic projects needed in time for the holidays. Customers are looking for a variety, as usual. Customers might be looking for save the date magnets to include in their Christmas card mailings. Customers might be looking for photographic magnets to send to family.

In some cases, people are just looking for a cute favor to hand out.

Check out this 4x3 inch magnet:
Winter Cards & Magnets

Rarely do I offer non glossy magnets, and this is one such example. While it may be non-glossy, this example is made out of a nice cream metallic paper. This particular magnet can be ordered as few as 5 at a time. Click here to order 10 on etsy.

Whether you are looking for cards or magnets, you definitely want to place an order before the first week of December passes. Now is the time.

ALTERNATIVES: To Exchange Rings, or NOT to Exchange Rings?

por | | 0 comments

Tattooed 'rings' may be the best option for you, especially if you want to avoid the cost, convention, maintenance and/or discomfourt of wearing a wedding ring.

On left: from TATTOOED BRIDE blog, via Allebach Photography
On right: from MANOLO BRIDES via Leigh Miller Photography

Many people are led to believe (incorrectly, at least in California) that one must exchange rings as part of the marriage ceremony.  Not everyone likes to wear jewelry, even if it is your wedding ring. Do you work around electricity?  A metal ring may not be a good idea.  And what is a more permanent symbol of your love, than a tattoo?  You can't lose it, since you won't need to take it off to paint your house.  You also won't be able to take it off or throw it after an argument with your other half...  ;-|

The act of tattooing rings to indicate betrothal or marriage is a fairly modern trend, but has gained popularity in recent times, especially in the UK and Europe. Ancient Egyptians would tattoo wrists and fingers to ward off illness and bad luck. Slaves' hands were sometimes tattooed to indicate ownership. Ancient Egyptian women have been found with tattoos on their bodies to promote fertility (from Ancient Egypt: Personal Ornaments website).

At a cost of about $100, tattooed wedding rings are an economical way to go, but may require some touch-up work down the line, especially as they fade and evolve with time.  The palm side of the hand is quite sensitive, pain-wise, and tattoos also tend to fade and blur faster on the palm side.
