WEDDING: Officiant for Multicultural Ceremony in Monterey Park, CA

It was a lovely outdoor wedding at Luminarias Restaurant in Monterey Park, with a large wedding party; the groom had known these friends since elementary school!?!  The couple asked to acknowledge a deceased best friend in the ceremony text.  The best man cried many tears throughout the ceremony.  Awesome!

Congratulations, Lupe and Ke!   Not only was this Laotian - Mexican couple a dream to work with (and beautiful to look at, see below), they had hired some of the best vendors i have had the privilege of working with. 

i felt i had to mention: Frank the photographer was approachable and down-to-earth, while still being professional and extremely attentive to the goings-on...plus, he is obviously an artist, but has a sense of humour.  Believe it or not, not all photogs possess these qualities.

Extra informational cards

A nice save the date design often doesn't leave room for a block of text (like hotel information).

There are a few ways to go about adding more hefty information. One way might be to go with a folded card, printed on the front with a nice color design, and on the inside with a more down-to-business block of information.

Another way is to include an extra little card. This is the best option for those sending out a save the date magnet; Getting a small inexpensive card to include in the envelope.

Check out the example below. A fun 4.1x2.6 inch save the date magnet, a 5x3.5 inch envelope, and a small card with more information.

Recap: Venture Out Onto the Jetties

Our reception venue, the Hotel Galvez, is literally across the street from Galveston's beaches, so we simply HAD to take dramatic pictures out on the jetties.  That of course required getting to a jetty in my huge wedding dress.

My maid of honor / train picker-upper only later told me that she is scared to death of jetties! To be honest, it was pretty treacherous picking our way across the granite boulders barefoot. But the pictures were completely worth it!

I did not plan this adventure very well - we didn't have any towels to wipe off our sandy feet! Luckily, my amazing maid of honor had a water bottle for rinsing and a piece of paper for wiping.

Awall and Danny started FTWBroadcasting as a vehicle to combine our two favorite things: Video Games, and working on a project together. We are doing Starcraft 2 Dual Commentaries in HD on You Tube and loving it! We are striving to bring Esports to as many people as possible. How did we meet? On the first day of college Awall spotted Danny on the steps of our dorm and asked, 泥o you Play Warcraft 3? We have been best friends ever since.

Awall's plays Protoss, and Danny play Terran and Zerg. We find all of the races to be exciting in their own regard, that's why Blizzard has always been the leader in RTS games. Whether the match-up is TvZ, TvP, TvT, PvZ, PvT, PvP, ZvT, ZvP, or ZvZ... we have to get in on that HOT Starcraft 2 Action!

SURVIVOR CEREMONY: Sky Terrace Mobile Lodge in Lake View Terrace

i was extremely humbled and honoured to be invited by the SKY TERRACE MOBILE LODGE community to lead a ceremony for the survivors of the MAREK/MEREK FIRES, to help acknowledge the residents' many losses, including their beloved pets, and to grieve over the transient man who lost his life in the fire.

The Los Angeles Times reported on the CEREMONY, in an effort to call attention to the community and to help them receive assistance from the government and federal agencies:

"After hearing from Venus Kitagawa-Stojsic, who described herself as a
Celebrant with a humanist church, the residents spoke about what they had lost
and their experiences since flames raced through Sky Terrace on Oct. 13.

"The ceremony ended with a moment of silence to pray for the homeless man
and pets killed in the fire. None of the Sky Terrace residents knew the man's
name, and officials have yet to identify him.

"Most of us have a bond now that we didn't have before, but this ceremony
is about moving on and restarting our lives," Zuchegna said."

In January, on the day before Israel declared a ceasefire in the Gaza Offensive, a tank fired at Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish's home in the Jabaliya refugee camp, killing three of his daughters and his niece, and injuring four other family members. Shortly after, he appeared on Israeli news broadcasts calling for peace. His broadcasts gave the Israeli public their first glimpse of the human cost suffered by residents of Gaza during the attacks.

In this video, Dr. Abuelaish accepts the 2009 Niarchos Prize for Survivorship.

CHARLOTTE AND GRAEME'S MARQUEE WEDDING AT HOME

I first met with Charlotte and Graeme and her parents at their home to chat about their wedding which was booked at The SAS Radisson sparkly new hotel in Durham.

The next time I was met with them, the venue had changed to her mum and dad's home with a grand marquee!

I've photographed a few weddings in the last year which involved some very upmarket marquees, all decked out with soft furnishings and candelabras with fine catering and beautiful flowers, and this was no different - and what a wonderful time all their family and friends had during their day of wedding celebrations.

Charlotte's late Nana, to whom she was very close, always spent a lot of time in the garden and at home and one evening at a family gathering, it was suggested that it would be a great idea to utilise the garden as the wedding venue in her memory - and that was it, all the plans changed and everyone became very focussed.

When I arrived early on the morning, the marquee already looked stunning while Charlotte and her mum and bridesmaids were all still in their dressing gowns, getting their hair and nails and everything else a lady needs to be at their best at a wedding.

So, I did my usual and wandered around chatting and taking photographs which would tell the story of the day and followed Charlotte into the marquee where the flowers and decorations and tables were being assembled by friends of Graeme's family - and she was so impressed she decided it was time to get on her Maggie Sottero wedding gown.

What a stunning sight she was - though we had a good laugh when mum went under the dress to sort out the petticoat!

By now it was time for me to dash to the historic parish Church of St Mary and Cuthbert in Chester le Street and catch up with Graeme. He was pretty chilled out, though he told me later he was very nervous, and I joked that whe he saw Charlotte in her stunning dress coming down the aisle that he might need a paramedic!

So, the bride arrived and swept down the aisle while I was (unfortunately) stuck at the back of the church, a legacy of legions of so called 'wedding photographers' spoiling relationships with the clergy over the last 10 years.

However, with a longer lens I managed to get a few images of the happy couple beaming at each other during the ceremony and the beautiful church interior made a fine photograph.

I captured lots of relaxed shots of family and friends meeting and greeting outside with a few quick family groups in case grandparents flagged a little later in the day when I prefer to arrange some family groups after the wedding breakfast.

Once back at Charlotte's parents house in Rickleton everyone settled in for the day and for the night. The amazing marquee and relaxation areas by Black Cherry Events was a real stunner for guests who had yet to see it and provided a fine canvas for the entertaining speeches and fine food by Ramside Event Catering.

Once Charlotte and Graeme had finished the wedding breakfast, I borrowed them for 10 minutes for some relaxed images of the two of them together away from their friends and relatives.

Charlotte and Graeme are a good looking couple, but like many of my brides and grooms, they are not their happiest in front of a camera, whch is why they booked me as they knew that 95% of the images I create are taken naturally as events unfold. By building a relationship with them and having a pre-wedding shoot a few weeks before the wedding, they were able to relax and listen to my silly jokes and banter as I captured some lovely images of the two of them.

By now, evening guests were starting to arrive - and of course England were playing the USA in the World Cup, so one end of the marquee was set up to watch the match for those who wanted, and at the other end the ceilidh band booked with Dusk Til Dawn Entertainment Agency were setting up, ready for the end of the match to get people on their feet and dancing.

Charlotte had changed into another stunning dress by this time, 'for dancing in' she explained, while Graeme and his dad were knocked for six when the Robert Green spilled the ball (see photograph above) and by then the Hog Roast was well underway and making the guests very hungry indeed.

Time for a few more images before the ceilidh got everyone on their feet and it was time for me to leave after 13 hours on my feet.

Music and laughter were still ringing out as I made my way home for a cheeky beer!
