The other day I got invited down to Artists at Play Make Up School to play model for a session on dark skin makeup. Whilst there i got to meet school founder and international artist, Carol Mackie. Her name was one long know to me but it was fantastic to meet the woman herself in person. "Artists at Play" work exclusivly with MAC cosmetics and have a host of lecturers who collectivly have pretty much covered every major fashion publication, celebrity and Fashion Week show within Australia.

The abaya is an overgarment worn by some women in parts of the Islamic world. It is the traditional form of hijab, or Islamic dress, for many countries of the Arabian peninsula such as the United Arab Emirates, where it is the national dress.Traditional abayat are black, and may be either a large square of fabric draped from the shoulders or head, or a long caftan. The abaya covers the whole body except the face, feet, and hands. It can be worn with the niqab, a face veil covering all but the eyes. Some women choose to wear long black gloves, so their hands are covered as well. Abayat are known by various names but serve the same purpose, which is to cover up. Contemporary models are usually caftans, cut from light, flowing fabrics like crape, georgette, and chiffon. Styles differ from region to region: some abayat have embroidery on black material while others are brightly coloured and have different forms of artwork across them.

Next to silver and gold, many jewelry designs are accented in copper. While it is not an actual gemstone, what is it really? Copper is a native element that occurs in nature uncombined with other elements. The native elements form under greatly contrasting physical and chemical conditions; in a variety of rock types. So, what is copper exactly? It is a naturally occurring free metallic state, considered to be one of the first metals to be used by humans. It is a relatively soft metal, easy to solder, flex and manipulate into any form; this is why it is a popular material used by wire workers in early designs or tests before conforming the designs to silver or gold. It gets its name from the Latin aes Cyprium, meaning ‘metal of Cyprus’, shortened to cyprium and later corrupted into cuprum.
Copper is found in large quantities, usually massive aggregates, some said to weight up to several tons. When copper is well crystallized, it can be found in cubic or dodecahedral crystals in the forms of mini tree-like shapes. It can be found all over the world with most common deposits in the United States. It is usually orange or copper red in color and looks good mixed with any gemstones.
Copper’s healing power have been used since the Middle Ages to promote smooth functioning of the glands and prevent wear and tear of joints. It encourages a positive attitude and self-confidence, improve decision making and brings harmony among the members of a family.

If it’s good weather, one can walk the length of the I10 freeway hotels and shop among miles of street vendors. These vendors take over almost every inch of hotel space/rooms, parking lots and sidewalks, ballrooms and lobbies, and even around the pool and courtyard areas.
Here one will find anything and everything you can image from raw materials cut from the mine, custom cut materials strung for beading, jewelry and gift items, equipment and tool for the beading enthusiast to the professional lapidary, and even see geodes the size of small buildings! There are merchants local to the area, vendors from across the country and many from around the world. Some vendors sell direct to the public while others will only sell wholesale; check with each vendor before purchase to determine if they sell to the public or wholesale only.
Last year, this is where we found a lot of great deals and very unusual gemstones; our resident gemologist added more raw materials for his collect during our Street Vendor day than anything time in Tucson.
